In the short story “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, a girl named Hazel or Squeaky (nickname) is a character who may seem disrespectful and impolite on the outside, but she is kindhearted on the inside. Squeaky is admirable because she is tough, she stands up for her brother, and she is confident in her running ability. My first reason Squeaky is admirable is because she is tough. For example, Squeaky says “I must rather knock you down and take my chances.” on page 1. This shows how Squeaky is acting strong in front of her enemies. Another example of how Squeaky is tough is that Squeaky doesn’t care if she gets in a fight. She knows she is strong enough to beat anybody in a fight. Another example of how Squeaky cares for her brother Raymond is when Squeaky says, “And by the time he comes over I’m running and jumping to see him -- my brother Raymond…” on page 6. This shows that Squeaky loves her brother Raymond. My last reason for how Squeaky takes care of her brother Raymond is that Squeaky said that she would give up her running career for Raymond so he can have his own trophies and stuff. This shows that Squeaky cares for
