It all started with a little story called ¨Raymond's Run¨ by Toni Cade Bambara. A girl named Squeaky happens to be taking care of her special brother Raymond and filling in all her needs. However, don't think that she is soft for one moment. That's why I think she is a feisty but a thoughtful person, she doesn't care what others think. She also will stand out for bullies that try to hurt her brother.
On the 9th of October, Robert Sheldon was found lying on the tainted red grass of Oak Park. The park was described to be “about two blocks square, with a fountain in the middle and a small swimming pool for little kids.” Police investigators ran through a body analysis showing Sheldon was stabbed by a switchblade around two-thirty in the morning. Hours later after the body was found, police went around asking Sheldon’s family and friends. Three kids, who are witnesses say Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade were responsible.

In the story of Tom Brennan by J.C. Burke, the protagonist Tom experiences a traumatic catastrophe of his brother’s drink driving incident leaving his brother Daniel in jail, two dead and one paralysed which left Tom’s beliefs of his family shattered. Tom’s response to such a chaotic event in their social position is one of self-hatred, this is portrayed through the extended metaphor of darkness, “In the dark I could see the grime… I could feel it pasted crawling on my skin,” emphasising the despair and melancholy which fills Tom’s heart, and the sense of paralysis. The author demonstrates Tom’s progress of transition maturity throughout the physical motif of running, as Uncle Brendan quotes “Start running tomorrow, i’ve never seen you so..
Both sources provided basic details about former State Representative Raymond W. Ewell. However, I found the first source, History Makers to be undoubtedly creditable. This source included an exclusive glimpse into the life of the senator. The History Maker, website provides researchers with pertinent facts about Mr. Ewell life. Also, the information provided seem to have been solicited directly from Representative Ewell in the form of a one on one interview.
This can be seen in the story, “There is no track me that [she doesn 't] win the first-place”(Bambara, 23). Squeaky is also hot-headed. This is seen in the story in the line: “And the next word out of any body and I’ll be their mother too”(Bambara, 26). She is also very serious about what she does, “...about to take a stroll down Broadway so [she] can practice [her] breathing…”

When we think of siblings we all think of someone to play, run, fight, and talk to with but, narrator wasn’t able to do those things with his little brother Doodle The narrator often failed to appreciate Doodle. Doodle was very small and fragile. He was born with a very weak heart so, he couldn’t do much. The narrator thought that because Doodle couldn’t play, run, fight, and talk to him his brother was “crazy”. One time he even
This causes Squeaky to notice how Raymond has his own passion for running. One example is when Squeaky says, “...Raymond is on the other side of the fence, bending down with his fingers on the grass just like he knew what he was doing.” (Page 5). This shows how Squeaky thinks Raymond would make a good runner. This also shows why Squeaky can take care of her brother.
In 1973, Clifford Geertz- an American anthropologist- authored The Interpretation of Cultures, in which he defines culture as a context that behaviors and processes can be described from. His work, particularly this one, has come to be fundamental in the anthropological field, especially for symbolic anthropology-study of the role of symbols in a society- and an understanding of “thick description”-human behavior described such that it has meaning to an outsider of the community it originated. Alice Goffman is an American sociologist and ethnographer widely-known for her work, On the Run: Fugitive Life in an American City (2015). In this work, she relays how for her undergraduate and doctoral research project, she immersed herself in a predominately African-American community of Philadelphia as a white, privileged woman. Goffman goes on the explain how the frequent policing and incarceration of young, black men from this neighborhood affects the entire community and even affected Goffman herself.
In life, a lot of people are overprotective of others and it’s mostly toward loved ones, after all, people want to protect the ones they want to keep around for a long time. In “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky is very protective of her brother Raymond because he cannot protect himself. These are three reasons why I think Squeaky is very protective of Raymond. This is the first reason that shows how protective Squeaky is of Raymond is that when people run into her she takes everything seriously when she is with Raymond or if it’s about him. For example, when Gretchen came up to Squeaky and Raymond and they started talking then when Mary asked “What grade you in now, Raymond?”

The passage, “Always Running” by Luis J. Rodriguez evokes the tone of indifference. Rodriguez demonstrates these tones through imagery. For example, at the beginning of the passage the narrator, Luis gives us background information about his living situation to set up imagery for the rest of the passage. Then, Luis sets the tone of indifference with this sentence “So without ceremony, we started over the tracks, climbing over discarded market carts and tore-up sofas.” This quote uses the literary device of imagery because the narrator is painting a picture of their environment.
