“It was an accident. This man invaded your home with the sole intention of killing you both. Ray did what any man would have to save his family, you, and the life of your unborn child. What I don’t understand was why Mr. Crawford came to Glendara.”
“He was angry that Ray had gotten his brother acquitted. He had gone to a great deal of trouble to stage the robbery to make it look like Michael was the perpetrator. He was so cold about killing Mr. Ahmed’s wife. He said she was an unfortunate casualty in his plan to make Michael suffer some of the pain and unhappiness that he had suffered throughout his childhood. Troy headed for the door, “I’ll check on you tomorrow. When Ray feels up to it, I’ll get his version of what happened to put in the report. It’s only a formality mind you.”
“We’ll there be a trial?”
“Not a chance. There will be an inquiry though. I’m positive the judge will rule it an accidental shooting, given all the facts and Matthew’s criminal background.”
“I can’t wait until this nightmare ends.”

Are you being serious? Let’s reiterate all you’ve done since moving to Madison. You found a shallow grave with human bones shortly after moving here, almost single-handedly solved a century-old crime, and now had to deal with a crazy man invading your home and almost killing you both.”
“Well, if you put it that way I’d have to agree.” Casey managed a weak smile.
“I can honestly say nothing like this has ever happened in Madison before. I hope it doesn’t drive you away. I’ve grown quite fond of you.”
Troy turned around and came back. He wrapped her in his arms and gave her a big hug. I keep thinking if things had turned out differently, you would be my niece.
She reciprocated. “I feel that same way about you too, Troy. Please, don’t worry about me. I have fallen in love with Madison and all my friends. I intend on living here for a very long time. While I’m thinking about it, how would you feel about being a godparent?”
He beamed with pride, “I would be honored. I was hoping you’d ask. If you didn’t, would have to resort to begging or bribery whichever worked best.”
Their laughter was a healing salve.
“Get some rest, Casey. I’ll check on you both later.”
