Reaction Time Lab Report

Research Question: How does the physiological stimulus of music affect the reaction time of a subject?

Aim:
The aim of this experiment is to see how reaction time can be tested in a variety of ways and can be affected by a number of environmental and physiological factors.

Hypothesis: I have reached the hypothesis that the reaction time will increase whilst the subject is listening to music. Reaction time is stated as the time that elapses between a stimulus and a response to it.
Observing the physiological effect, for the experiment the subjects will be catching a 30cm ruler with the hands spaced an inch apart whilst listening to music to see if it will cause the person to have a slower reaction time. Looking to see how the attention will partially be focused on the music rather than how well they are catching the ruler without the distraction of music
As the psychology related to reaction time shows that for athletes, the silence before a race in a stadium increases pressure in fears of a false start. Which may be the reason that music allows the subject to focus less on the fear of not catching the ruler or having a false start by grabbing at the wrong time, affecting the reaction time. 1

Null Hypothesis:
The null hypothesis is that grabbing the ruler (cm) whilst listening or not to music, will not have any affect on the reaction time.

Variables
Independent: the music playing whilst the ruler is being dropped

Dependant: the
