I read the book True Legend by Mike Lupica. To keep a book alive and interesting authors use three different character types. Those character types are static, dynamic, and stereotype. Mike Lupica did a very good job at keeping the reader focused. Drew was the dynamic character because he had some important decisions that had a big impact on what would happen.

Book Summary Under the Mesquite is a story about a fourteen year old girl named Lupita from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. Lupita is the oldest child of eight and discovers that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer. Lupita is faced with leaving Mexico and coming to the United states to move to Eagle Pass, Texas. Fantastical Realization Fantasy and fiction flood most of our childhood but, the older a child gets, the quicker fiction turns to fact as slowly but surely, the rug of fantastical imagination is pulled out beneath them. This is exactly the case in Li-Young Lee’s short poem A Story. A Story is about a father who struggles to tell stories to his son, but as the boy grows older, his coming of age begins to make their relationship complex. Even though the complexity of the relationship is never directly stated, Lee shows this idea through point of view and literary devices. found in the poem.
Stories are the foundation of relationships. They represent the shared lessons, the memories, and the feelings between people. But often times, those stories are mistakenly left unspoken; often times, the weight of the impending future mutes the stories, and what remains is nothing more than self-destructive questions and emotions that “add up to silence” (Lee. 23). In “A Story” by Li-Young Lee, Lee uses economic imagery of the transient present and the inevitable and fear-igniting future, a third person omniscient point of view that shifts between the father’s and son’s perspective and between the present and future, and emotional diction to depict the undying love between a father and a son shadowed by the fear of change and to illuminate the damage caused by silence and the differences between childhood and adulthood perception. “A Story” is essentially a pencil sketch of the juxtaposition between the father’s biggest fear and the beautiful present he is unable to enjoy.
Lupe is super smart she has won many awards proving she is intelligent. Lupe won many awards, but I think the one she will most remember is the day she got a small trophy from the major for not missing a day of school, except for a day in kindergarten when she got stung by a wasp. She is a straight A student. Won the school’s spelling bee champion, winner of the reading contest at the library three years in a row, won blue ribbon award in the science fair, top student at her piano recital, and the playground grand champion in chess. All those achievements prove that she is very
There were many more negatives experiences than positives for instance; Mami was unable to duplicate the words when she would ask the kids how to say it, “Her lips seemed to tug apart even the simplest vowels. That sounds horrible, I said” (Diaz 124). Additionally, her husband also did not contribute much to help her as well telling her “You don’t have to learn, he said. Besides, the average women can’t learn English.
A 10-year-old girl, Lila, narrates this story. But narration through the perspective of a 10-year-old child slightly lowlights the heaviness of the topic and its effects. The characters are witnessing the Indo-Pak war from a distance both geographically and emotionally. Lilia’s parents were worried about the conflict and War but this conflict left Lila struggling with her own life. Mr. Pirzada gave a candy to Lila as a sign of affection.
He later found the different between the two languages. For example, classroom language is the same as public language while home language is the same as private language. He doesn 't know what will happen and how he will be perceived during his act so he is very worried until the climax of the story.
Even before applying for work, I enrolled in the local college and began taking ESL courses. I was amazed at the golden opportunities that this country offered its’ students. I often hear the citizens complain about tuition fees and transportation costs, but I considered myself fortunate when I compared the costs with the colleges and universities at my homeland. I soon learned that I could obtain financial aid to cover my tuition and receive grants. I was given every opportunity to thrive academically and, I was ready to embrace each one of them with great joy and pleasure.
“To me speaking spanish translated into being poor.” Barrientos also feel that she is judged by society and other Latinas for not speaking her cultural language.
