In the story, “Fighter” by Walter Dean Myers, and throughout the story, Billy is fighting himself and life. First off, in beginning of the story it states on page 27, “Billy Gates told his wife that he was just going to the gym to work out. If he’d told her the truth, that he was going to fight again, he knew she would have cried.” I think this shows that Billy is going to fight, but he knows his wife does not want him to fight. But, he knows that he needs to fight, but not necessarily wants to fight.
The conflict of the story “The Fighter”, written by Walter Dean Myers, is that Billy Giles is having trouble with some things such as money issues. Billy Giles does not have a lot of money so he has to fight and box to get paid. His wife Johnnie Mae does not want him fighting so he has to keep the pride to stay in the fight without his wife finding out. In the beginning of the story the text states, “Billy Giles told his wife that he was going to the gym to work out. If he told her the truth, that he was going to fight again, he knew she would have cried” (27).
Authors and artists have various qualities that are very similar throughout their work. In the painting Red Vineyards in Arles (1888) by Vincent Van Gogh he paints his perspective of slaves working. Van Gogh paints their facial expressions in the way they work. In the novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen he shows a realistic experience in how the main character Brian gets lost in the canadian woods and goes through multiple situations. The author Gary Paulsen also writes Woodsong this novel shows his real life experience and puts those positions in how he felt into his character Brian in Hatchet.
Imagine living where whenever you got hurt physically or even mentally the pain disappeared, impossible right? Well for everyone that Brewster Rawlins cares about, this is reality. In the novel Bruiser by Neal Shusterman, Brewster cannot care about a lot of people, because when he cares about you, he takes away all of your pain and bad emotions, and it goes straight to him. In the story, many people Brew cares about realize that when Brewster takes their pain, it's like they're not living their own life, as they don't experience their own pain. With pain comes experience and life, and without pain it's like you're not even living.
Freak the mighty is a book by Rodman Philbrick. It is about two boys that solve puzzles and go on adventures. Freak and Maxwell are a good team; because, freak is the brains and Maxwell is the muscle. In the book/show, they become freak the mighty. This book is a good example of why friendship is important.
Reading this story made me feel sad at times but covered up the sadness with laughter soon after (that rhyme). In my opinion, when writing this he intended to entertain by making people laugh and it definitely did. Because in his writing, he uses jokingly and sarcastic
In Gary Paulsen novel “Hatchet” it touches on the theme Initiation into Manhood. When a boy named Brian Robeson crashes in a forest with nothing but a hatchet, he learns new things like how to catch food and adapt to the environment. In the article written by Dallas morning news it talks about how teenage boys getting help from people who teach life lessons about accountability, respect, responsibility, and empathy. According to the people in the article they also believe that this program teaches these boys how to be men. In both literatures they both show examples of initiation.
The book I chose to read was Monster by Walter Dean Myers. This is one of the required readings listed on the young adult book list. I always had an interest in Walter Dean Myers books which I read in junior high and high school. This book was a really great read and I can almost relate to him in many ways. In the year 1999, Walter Dean Myers has introduced the readers to a young man name Steve Harmon.
Nothing brings a reader to such an abrupt halt as do lines 20 and 21 of stanza 3. The narrator states that the male character “was [her] uncle, the one who lived in the half-finished basement, and he took [her] by the hair”. This statement brings the entire poem into perspective- the narrator’s want for constant company, her willingness to go with a man she had only just met, and even her very blatantly obvious jealousy towards her so-called “best friend” mentioned in stanza 1. The abuse of a family member who a child is supposed to trust and put their full faith in,
This poem showed that anyone can be somebody no matter what background they came from or situation they're in. He then proceeded to say that people need
The surgical operation he had gone in his forehead makes him lose his status as a hero in the emotional reaction of despair as other prisoners watch. In analyzing this poem, the main point of focus is that the poet achieves a contemplative mood by listing surface events that are emotional in nature. Looking at the structure of the poem first, the poem has 42 lines or sentences. Most of the sentences are complicated with the poem employing the use of verb-nouns in a normal way. The poet also includes some enjambment, some end-stopped lines and a title that precisely explains what is going on in the poem.
The Matrix is a really good movie with many connections to the world and many different themes, but a really big parallel is the biblical aspects of this movie. This movie is not just a sci-fi thriller after watching it i noticed all the components of the bible. One of the more noticeable parallels is neo, morpheus, and trinity. They are the special trio like the father, son, and the holy spirit. Morpheus would be the father because he guides neo in the right direction, neo would be the son because he sacrifices himself for everyone else, and trinity is the power of three, she is the holy spirit because she brings neo back to life.
By looking at The thinkers of the Enlightenment within the context of their own time, we can see that even having their ideas applied to just the elite was a success towards the democracy and equality for everyone. Before the Enlightenment, lives were dominated with religion: religious wars, discrimination against “other” faiths, and church and state was interconnected in many places. The Enlightenment movement stressed ideas such as logic and scientific thought. These ideas attacked and weakened the church, allowing room for new forms of high powers. Accordingly, ideas such as democracy rose from the Enlightenment movement, and, even though only wealthy males were given the right to participate, simply giving any group of the common masses
This whole poem shows how Cowper is a man of religion and uses real time events to show how God provides a path for excellence, while people take advantage of it. “Cowper 's immense popularity owed much to his advocacy of religious and humanitarian ideals at a time of widespread Evangelical sentiment, manifest as much in the moral zeal of the antislavery movement, which he fervently
The literary elements in this poem add to the effect the poem has on the reader, which can be different for everyone, but it makes the reader reflect on their own life and how kindness has changed
