Poems can be compared and contrasted, even if you don’t think they are similar. The two poems “The Real Monster” and “Forgotten” are both similar and different. They both include different moods, characters feelings, and writing style. They include these aspects in different ways. The poem “The Real Monster” is about a mom who tells her kids there are no monsters under their beds, but she never tells them they can be the ones that claim to love you. The mood of this poem is pretty similar to “Forgotten” but also different. The poem “The Real Monster”, has a negative mood. Another aspect of the poem is the character's feelings. The main character seems like they have been hurt by someone, most likely their father, which is different from the feelings of the main character's dad in “Forgotten”. An example from the poem is “Sometimes monsters come dressed as people that claim to love you.” The last aspect of the poem is the author's writing style. They only remember little things from their dad. The mood of this poem starts negative but has a little bit of positive memories in the middle and then back to negative, just like how “The Real Monsters” has a negative mood. A quote from the poem is “Crying for some stranger. Couldn't think of anything to do.” The main character has a different view than the main character in the other poem, but they both have been hurt by someone or something in their life. The character in this poem shares how hurt they were when their father passed away in this quote “Nobody else's dad had been so loved by a four-year-old. And so forgotten by one now thirteen.” The last quality is the writing style.
