Have you ever considered what you would do if you and your classmates were stranded on a deserted island with absolutely nothing? How well do you think you and all the other kids would survive, would you lose all your sanity or would you be able to keep your composure and get off the island? In Lord of the Flies, author Golding brings our wonders to reality by writing this novel about a group of boys on their way to a class field trip by plane where it crash lands leaving them stranded with absolutely nothing. As Ralph takes a deep breath and blows with all his might into the conch“A deep, harsh note boomed”(Pg 21) that echoed all over the island raising an idea that this could be used to bring order to the island. The importance of this quote shows the power that the conch has to call to order with its loud and assertive sound to whoever is using it. This means that whoever holds it has the authority to talk, we see this being used in the book as Ralph tells the group of kids, “I'll give the conch to the next person to speak”(Pg 33) showing strong order and power to the conch and whoever has possession of it. The longer the boys are on the island, they start losing their sanity and organization as a group. This represents how the conch is slowly crumbling and weathering away, losing its power and slowly bringing the kids closer to complete chaos. The tensions were rapidly increasing, and war started breaking out between the split groups eventually leading to Piggy's death and the conch being “smashed to powder”(Pg 184) bringing everyone into complete chaos and
