By the time 476 half of the Roman Empire collapsed. The dilemma that put Rome in the brink of disintegration was the failure of the social, military, and economic system. Rome had various reasons as in why it failed to point of extinction. Unfairness among the people: Rome's society was split into free people and slaves. Slaves had no freedom, and they worked hard to please their masters. This caused for a unbalance among the people. As the empire increased in size, more people were compelled into the army. As the army expanded, so did the need for money. The army needed money for salaries, and the only available solution was to massively tax the people from all the Roman territories.
