The author, Natalie Wexler is a one of the founders of the board of trustees for the Writing Revolution. In her article, Why Americans Can 't Write, with the advent of email, writing ability has become more important than ever, and writing deficiencies have become increasingly apparent. The writing skills have been lacking in America, and the reason is because schools have only 24% of the students in eighth and 12th grades were proficient in writing and just 3% were advanced. In her essay "Does Texting Affect Writing?", Michaela Cullington presents her argument that texting does not impact formal writing written by students. She discusses the concerns presented by many people about how texting language can transfer into writing, but through the use of personal experiences and credible sources she discusses how this is not true. Her use of multiple different studies and situations help boost her argument and allow the reader to truly see how students actually do formal writing. She presents a strong argument as to why those who believe students don't have the control and knowledge to write formally, instead of with text speak, are wrong.
Not So Fast” Andrea Lunsford researched students’ writing for 30-plus years to see what effect new technology has on how students learn. Lunsford discovered that students are actually improving their own writing skills with the help of mass media. Not only does it allow students more access to educational resources and information, but it also encourages students to do more creative thinking and writing outside of class which Lunsford refers to in her article as “life writing.” In her research she recalls the account of a student who sent a friend a text message which was completely informal and would be considered unprofessional by most piers. However, the same student also sent a very formal and professional report to her faculty adviser later on.

She decides to conduct another one twenty five years later to see how much the writing skills have changed since technology has been updated and became more available to students. She found that “students today are writing more than ever before.” Although we still have the same amount of writing errors as before, the patterns of errors are different. Many people argue that technology is only making our writing skill worse, this study helps to prove a different theory.

Teaching people to write has been around for just as long, but it seems as though students today simply aren't getting it. Students appear to be lacking in many of the writing skills, such as punctuation, grammar, and generally are falling below proficient in tests based around writing skills. " If only 24 percent of students are showing that they have writing skills at the level that they should be at, then shouldn't a change be made in the curriculum for writing? When it comes to writing a paper, letter, thank you card, etc., it is difficult for me. The reasons why writing is hard for me is because, a lot of times when I write I get distracted by, other people, thinking about something else on my mind, instead of what I am writing, finishing up my chores, etc. Also, when I write my grammar is incorrect, for example, pronoun errors. In other words, “Everybody don’t care if they hate it or not.” That was wrong, but the correct way to write it is, “Everybody don’t care if he or she hates it or not.”
Throughout my education, writing strategies persisted to be a challenge for me. I dreaded writing because I could never find ways to transition my thoughts from my mind to the paper. Ironically, a class that petrified me due to the amount of required writing ended up helping me in numerous ways. English 1301 and my professor prepared me for college and real life by giving me a foundation of effective learning strategies.
Is college worth it for student getting out of high school? I think that college isn’t worth for students out of high school, because of the cost of college, there are other options instead of college, and the employment rate of college students. Why I Hate Writing Why I hate writing? I hate writing for many reasons. Writing a paper is very time consuming. I’ve spent so many hours typing a paper and only had a few paragraphs.
Every student wants to be successful. However, the success of students around them causes them to exert even more, and sometimes unnecessary, work on their classes. This includes binge studying for a test to be sure that they do better than the students in the class, or as mentioned by Zinsser, “writing ten-page papers to impress them [the professors]” when five-page essays were actually assigned (Zinsser). Because there are students that do this, others feel the need to add more writing to their essays in order to reach the levels of those students.
Most of the proponents of the Law of Attraction say that your world is a reflection of your consciousness and I happen to agree with that. Notice how where you live is a reflection of your inner world of thoughts and emotions or when you go to other people’s places, maybe visiting a friend or a relative. Their places are reflection of what goes inside their heads and that is why we are upset when somebody invades our place and rearranges stuff, that constitutes a change for us and we humans do not like to change. Suddenly we feel like it is not our place anymore and the same is true with business or anything we do. THE REASON WHY PEOPLE FAIL people fail in business and are broke is because of what goes on inside of them.
It unlike some less formal types of writing, academic writing focuses on technique and how it should be used to best communicate ideas.
