While the true origins of chili are somewhat debated, who made it popular is not. Sometime after the Civil war between 1860 and 1880, chili began being sold by a group of women named “The Chili Queens”. The chili was sold with tamales and for only a dime. The first time Chili is ever mentioned in print is 1882 in Gould’s Guide to San Antonio, where he mentions that chili con carne was available all around the Military Plaza in San Antonio. There is evidence that chili con carne existed and thrived in Texas long before its first time mentioned in print, but because of interstate rail roads that began to connect San Antonio to the rest of the United States in the 1880’s, the 1880’s might have been the first time that chili con carne was spread farther than just through cattle trails in

The San Antonio Spurs The San Antonio Spurs were founded in 1967 by Irving Allen Mathews. They were originally named the Dallas Chaparrals, then the Texas Chaparrals, which both played in the ABA, but then were changed to the San Antonio Spurs in 1973 and joined the NBA in 1976. Now the Spurs are one of of the best, if not the best, basketball franchises ever. I think that they are the best because of their consistency of winning.
The Clutter family had it all. Nancy was beautiful, Herb Clutter was an admirable and respected man in Holcomb, Kansas, and the rest of the family were all well off in their lives. It seemed that only Bonnie Clutter, with her psychiatric condition, was not absolutely thriving. The town of Holcomb was the classic community; everyone knew everyone, and there was an air of respect. At one point, Greece was, in way, the same.
Put Your Money Where Your Grill Is Golden grills have been around for quite a long time now. Specifically, somewhere between in the 80’s and 90’s due to the influence of rappers in the hip hop industry. Do you remember those music videos where rappers always have a lot of jewellery like huge diamond necklaces and rings? If you still remember those videos, then it is impossible for you to miss that golden grillz. But gone are the days that only the people from the hip-hop are wearing them.
AZUCUS Ranch is a ranch in Vicksburg, MS where I ride horses. I have been riding there for many years, ever since I could walk. There are other riders there that have been there as long as I have. There are also some riders that have just started riding there. When the riders get done riding, it is their duty to take care of their horse, meaning they have to untack their horse, wash them off, put them in either a pasture or a stall, then depending on where they put them, they must feed them.
Tookie and Raymond claimed to have begun this gang only as a means of protection against other gangs in the area. Unlike the previous organized groups instead of adults working together against a bigger cause the Crips originated on campuses of High Schools in the Los Angeles area. Fremont High School was the home for “Eastside Crips” and the “Westside Crips”, while Compton quickly formed another fraction of Crips. Some gangs that were formed were the Rollin 20s Crips, 5 Duece Crip, Main Street Crips, and Kitchen Crip. Although these organizations used the Crip in their gang titles they often remained independent and held their own gang leaders and members.
During 1920’s the Crips were orginated in Los Angeles, California by two African American high schoolers Raymond, and Tookie. Raymond and Tookie claimed to have created the gang to protect each other from other gangs, polices, and other crimes surrounding their area. The Crips colors are blue, gray, and orange. Crips wear certain name brand clothing such as: British Knight, KSWISS, Colorado Rockies Athletic wear, and many others that will be discussed further on in the paper. Crips hands signs and Symbols are: 211 which means Blood Killers, a 6-point star, and other signs depends on which part of the hood the member is from.
"They called themselves "stoners" in reference to rock and the influence of the Rolling Stones" (Ramsey). This name reference made them become the Mara Salvatrucha Stoners. No member was over 18 at the time, but as their reputation began to grow they started getting into fights with other groups. "They hardly had any ambition beyond going to the next concert and feeling powerful by raising their fists into the air and raising two fingers, simulating a pair of horns" (Ramsey). This hand signal later becomes known as their gang
The theme of this weeks readings remind me of a famous quote by Richard Bach "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life". In these reading winter ceremonies was a main focus. The "Potlach" was a name given to most winter ceremonies in the Natives of the Northwest Coast celebrations. Originating from the Nuu-chah-nulth meaning to give. The Chief called the Northwest Coast people together to attend Potlatches.
intestines. Like the cayenne pepper, chilies also contain capsaicin. However, the indigenous use of chili was slightly different from that of the cayenne use. This is no surprise, as salsa can be found in many other Latin American countries. Salsa music is very popular for dancing. It can be heard at parties, bars, clubs, anywhere people may desire to dance. It features a range of instruments and a fast-paced, upbeat rhythm. Salsa music does integrate Cuban influences; however, it was founded in New York by the Puerto Rican community (“Costa Rican Music,” n.d.).
The Prohibition of 1919 The drug smuggling today is kind of like the Prohibition back in the year 1919. The laws today state that you are not to buy, sell or produce illegal drugs and in 1919 the law that they had made (the 18th amendment) had stated that you were not allowed to buy, sell, or produce alcohol. The laws today state that we are not allowed selling or producing illegal drugs just like the alcohol during the prohibition of 1919 but it is still done. The Prohibition of 1919 caused a rebellion in the American society because of the restrictions placed on the productions and sales of alcohol.
