Of all the coffee shops in Fargo, the two that get the most buzz are The Red Raven Espresso Parlor and Young Blood Coffee. The Red Raven is known for its attention to both coffee and art, as it provides a place for creatives to showcase their talents and have a cup of coffee while they’re at it. In contrast, Young Blood pays extra attention to its small yet carefully curated menu and the aesthetics of the shop. Both shops are a great place to stop in on any visit to downtown Fargo, but they vary in atmosphere, menu options, prices, and their own unique features that you can only find here in North Dakota.

Both serve great coffee, but their varying flavors are a matter of personal preference. The main variation in their menus is the extensiveness of options. The Red Raven has an expansive menu, featuring not only coffee drinks, but vegan pastries, snacks, sandwiches, and many other drinks besides coffee such as kombucha, smoothies, and tea. They also have seasonal menus that change with the seasons that are more unique. Young Blood’s menu has a much narrower range of options, but is still typical for a coffee shop. The items on their menu are only the classics, but they are carefully thought out to provide something for everyone and provides the opportunity to properly perfect every item on the menu. The Red Raven hosts many live concerts, poetry readings, comedy nights, and sells work made by local artists. They also have a quirky miniature library and a “free bin” with an assortment of random knick knacks brought in by customers. Many locals go to The Red Raven because of its impressive hours; it’s open from 7:30 am to 11:00 pm on weekdays, which some other small coffee businesses can’t compete with. While The Red Raven’s creativity is impressive, Young Blood is right there with them. At Young Blood’s first year anniversary of opening, they hosted a party with free coffee and drawings for free tattoos from a local tattooist. To make the free tattoo even more unique and extraordinary, they gave the tattoos to the customers that same day inside the coffee shop! The owners spent over $200 to obtain a licsense to tattoo within their store, which truly shows how far they’re willing to go in order to create an exceptional experience for their customers.
