Rediscover Catholicism by Matthew Kelly is an extraordinary book that reveals the essence of authentic Catholic spirituality while addressing some of the most important questions that many people face today as individuals and as a church. The content of the book captured my interest because I experienced a phase in my life where I had to rediscover Catholicism. Growing up I was introduced to the Catholic Church by family and friends. However, the goal of that process is to live a fulfilling and happy life. As Kelly mentioned, “The cultural settings of different ages may change dramatically, but two things remain the same in every place and in every time: the human heart’s yearning for happiness and the mission of the Church” (Kelly, 2010, p. 44). I relate to Kelly in the context that every heart searches for happiness. Whether I'd be having the job of your dreams, creating a beautiful family, living a healthy lifestyle, or being financially stable. Every individual searches for some type of mission that will fulfill their potential in living a happy life. The journey I experienced during my identity crisis led me to pursue a mission of rediscovering myself. I had patiently explored different religions than my own, but still experienced a conflicting life. I was miserable by the day and felt as if I was neglecting my identity to fit in the standards of my community. Rediscovering Catholicism has had a positive impact on my life. It has shaped my personality by being a more patient and generous individual, an area that I used to struggle in. It's interesting to reflect on how a part of your life can have a tremendous influence on how you live your life. My faith in Catholicism has shaped my culture, identity, and lifestyle. It has allowed me to live a more fulfilling life and has given me the strength to overcome difficult situations. In addition, my faith has motivated me to learn from other cultures and individuals. I have created deep conversations with amazing individuals by focusing on the positive things pop culture offers.
