week’s lesson we read, “Unearthing the Hidden Histories of a Borderlands Rebellion”, an essay by Benjamin Johnson. This essay starts off by describing the Plan of San Diego revolt that started in the summer of 1915. The plan was modeled to create a “liberating army of all races”, to create an “army” of Mexicans, Blacks, and Indians to in order to kill all white males. The Plan of San Diego revolt also called for this army to coup the United States government in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and California. Johnson believes that the coming of the railroad in 1904 was the critical local event that started this plan.
Nathaniel Philbrick, author of Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution, successfully enables his readers to grasp the significance behind Boston and its neighboring cities during the rise of the Revolutionary War. Most Americans have a vague understanding of why events like the Battle of Bunker Hill are relevant and how this particular campaign played a pinnacle role in leading up to the Revolutionary War, but Philbrick does a service to Americans by beautifully illustrating these events from cover to cover. Not only is each occasion intimately detailed, but Philbrick records these instances in a precise and memorable rhythm. Although at times his novel might appear exhausting with vivid imagery, Philbrick’s thesis remains clear: In the
According to Peter Stillman in Introduction to Myth women in heroic quests serve two basic purposes: temptations or guides to knowledge. A true hero should be able to look past the outside appearance which is sometimes blinding, and see the function of each woman he encounters on his quest. In The Natural, Memo Paris is the temptation, Iris Gaines is the guide to knowledge, and Roy Hobbs is not a hero. First, Memo Paris served a heroic quest by being the temptation in the novel.
“Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder,” exclaimed Sanger Rainsford. Sanger Rainsford stands on one side of the line and General Zaroff on the other.

The Red Record written by Ida B. Wells-Barnett opened the eyes of the people around the world to the horrific lynchings that had been happening. This book was directed to everybody to inform the world of the inhumane actions. If I were alive back in that time, this would have been motivation to make a stand. As it could have been motivation for the Civil Rights movement to begin. Being lynched served as punishment for pretty much anything that the mobs saw fit for an African American.

I can capture my readers attention by using a controversial statement to make them want to read more. Everyday you have at least one conflict whether you 're at work or school. My readers need to know what I think might not be what the same as what they think, and they have the choice to disagree. Literature and life are connected through characterization, conflict, and narration by life being told through literation with the help of conflict, narration, and characterization to help explain it.
“Everyone thinks they’re the hero of their own story.” In Borderlands by Gearbox, Jack, the main antagonist is a power hungry dictator that fought his way to the top of the company Hyperion. However, he was not always this way. In the beginning, Jack wished to save the people of his planet, Pandora. The Dahl corporation was threatening to obliterate Pandora’s moon, that would cause the planet to suffer immensely, if not being completely destroyed in the process.
In the Norton Field Guild, chapter four is about developing academic habits of the mind. Chapter four starts out with how the student needs to engage him or herself in to their academic studies. It talks about how you should raise your hand in class and you should ask questions in class and outside of class if you don’t understand what you are learning about. The other way you should be getting involved, is getting to know the students at the school and in your class because those who are engaged tend to study more and engage in their studies. The other main point of this chapter is about being motivated to do your school work and go to school.
The Crucible focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem Witch Trials and the extreme behavior that can result from dark desires and hidden agendas. The motions of the play vary from sneaky, dark, and sad to times of love and desire. The witch trials were full of hysteria which also had a strong role in tearing up the community of Salem. The people became very active in the hysterical climate and not only out of genuine religious piety but also because it gave them a chance to express repressed sentiments and to act on their long held grudges. John Proctor is the main character of The Crucible and is a much tormented individual.
The Native American tribes and the United States have a very long and devastating past. The english came from overseas and started taking the Natives land which they didn’t like. The Colonies did barter with some tribes, but fought for territory with most other tribes. The French even became allies with the Natives to try to defeat us in war. We befriended the Cherokee and a couple other dangerous tribes though in defence of their tactics.
