Hi everyone, My name in Oscar E Hermosillo and I am from the NAU-Yuma nursing program. I have lived since I was 7 years old in a small town called Somerton which is roughly about 10-15 miles south of Yuma. My goals for future nursing practice are kind of up in the air right now.
After 10 years working as a registered nurse in many aspects of healthcare, felt an overwhelming desire to advance my career and myself to expand my role in caring for others. Becoming a nurse practitioner has always been a goal of mine. During my time working as a nursing manager, I became acutely aware of the need of skilled and talented providers that desire to provide passionate care to all individuals. I became especially concerned with the needs those with limited access to healthcare services. I knew my desire to care for individuals in a more autonomous role and I set out to develop the skills needed to meet the need I witnessed.
When thinking about my personal philosophy of nursing the word diversity comes to mind. I myself come from a diverse background. Being Hispanic and living in different parts of the united states I have had the pleasure of experiencing different cultures. As a nurse, I have encountered diverse patient experiences. For example the Chinese elderly woman who would not take her medication or eat.
The feeling of being able to alleviate the suffering of an acutely ill patient is at once incredibly satisfying and immensely humbling. I am constantly in awe of the fact that by coming to work everyday, I have the privilege of helping others who cannot care for themselves. During my time in my Clinical Care Extender Internship, I developed a special interest in caring for the geriatric population and have had the opportunity of serving as a personal caregiver to an elderly woman with dementia. I do not take the trust and confidence that my patient places in me lightly and work hard to advocate and provide for her safety because she deserves no less. Thus, in the interest of patient advocacy, as a nurse in your facility, I will seek to improve the practices that will keep my patients safe and promote their healing.
Final Self-Assessment During the FNP III rotation, the student has seen many patients who have complex chronic illnesses than other two rotations that she completed for the FNP I and FNP II courses. The student had many opportunities to independently interview and exam the patients, then come up with differential diagnoses and treatment plan based on the pertinent and impertinent information and evidence-based practice. The preceptor, Dr. Jeanne-Elyse Cedeno, a medical physician/owner of the clinical site, always encouraged the student to think as a primary care provider in many ways. In this paper, the student is going to discuss the progress of the eight objectives (see Appendix A for details), discuss her personal growth and development in the nurse practitioner role, provide the information on what she learned in the clinical that will be valuable to her future practice, and describe any missed opportunities that she did not get out of this experiences as expected, discuss for areas of improvement in the future clinical rotation, and the summarize the final evaluation with her preceptor.
Sasha, thanks for sharing your post! I truly believe that worldview shifts depending on our life experiences, major occurences, or when plan change, new worldview takes place. Nursing is a great career to be in. It is not easy, so dedication and prioritization is a must to succeed!
Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
Philosophy of Nursing Introduction Nursing is a discipline that is guided by philosophical orientations that create a base for the development of nursing theories that translate into clinical practice. McEwen and Wills (2014) state, “rather than focus on solving problems or answering questions related to that discipline, the philosophy of a discipline studies the concepts that structure the thought process of that discipline with the intent of recognizing and revealing foundations and presuppositions” (p. 6). Nursing philosophy embodies knowledge acquisition and cultivates professionalism within the profession. Through philosophy, nurses have gained knowledge and have discovered the true value of nursing practice.
The last three clinical weeks at the Long Term Care Facility have provided me with real life situations to enforce the SILC clinical skills and improve my therapeutic communication. This experience has helped shaped me as a professional by allowing me to develop essential skills that contribute to the holistic care of nursing. A significant improvement that I developed following this experience included my assessment skills during every resident interaction. During these resident encounters, I began to address the resident’s overall well-being and comfort rather than just the current problem. I started incorporating questions about pain, how the resident slept at night, their current mood, and many other questions addressing the resident’s status as a whole.

The Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 [HPCA] and Nursing Council of New Zealand Code of Conduct for Nurses 2012 [COC] underpin the nursing practice, in order to promote the nursing profession. Professional boundaries play an important role in nursing. This essay will identify and discuss how the historical influence which is Florence Nightingale and the contemporary influence that is education has shaped the profession of nursing, the purpose and impact of the HPCA and COC on nursing, how they are implemented in the workplace and also define and explain the importance of the professional boundaries in nursing. The author highlights how vulnerable patients will give their trust to nurses, they should begin their relationship with a rapport (Price, 2017). “Patients often feel vulnerable and there can be an imbalance of power between the nurse and the patient; similarly, patients who are receiving treatment in hospital can find themselves in an unfamiliar environment” (Price, 2017). In this situation the client was degraded, there was an imbalance of power. The client had an unfamiliar caregiver, creating confusion and anxiety. To create a therapeutic relationship trust must be created, it requires effective communication, honesty, and respect.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
