Reflection On Race And Ethnic

Being a Caucasian, to me, it’s like a label. Coming from a family that is African American, Native American or even Asian, has its toll because it means that from birth you are being labeled for how you look and act. Race and ethnicity plays an extremely difficult role in our society because I believe it causes us to different in a way that it drives us to be certain people that we possibly don’t want to be. It’s like calling a black person a thug when he really wants to go to Harvard and get his degree to be a doctor, or calling a white woman a rich snob when she’s struggling to hold her life together. To me, we label people too easily and judge them based on that label because it’s easier than getting to know others. My race affects how I act in life because I understand what it’s like to have a label on my back wherever I go. It also causes me to feel and be more open to others ideals since I understand that we are all different and we all act a certain way due to the environment we are exposed to. In addition, religion can also have a significant impact on how a person acts, especially me. Being exposed to a Christian environment has helped me to understand that everyone believes in something, we are different because we believe in something different, we believe in different gods.
