Origins of Race DBQ Race was an idea founded in the mid-17th Century in Europe that expanded across the globe and brought the idea of enslavement of other people who were seen as “inferior” from different countries like Africa and sold for labor. This brought up justification and reasons for race which continued for many years. Race was considered a group and category that was used to “organize” people and people had many reasons for justifying it. Economic ideas of race were from those who wanted to run a business or make a profit used race and inferior race ideas to support and continue doing inhuman things. According to Document One, the African Slave Trade was practiced by many countries and people and was considered acceptable for Europeans to buy and sell African Americans since it brought profit and money to many in different ways since they were considered “below” everyone else due to their looks and background. Scientific reasons for race and how it doesn’t correlate to race is shown in Document 5 that different human species should be divided into four groups based on their alleged characteristics and mark themselves with certain things like paints or garments. The document is trying to explain race and categorization of races through the people’s supposed characteristics and only using four groups, proving the correlation between race and scientific reasoning doesn’t work.
