Reflection On The Stereotypes Of Canada

254 Words2 Pages
When I first arrived, I noticed that Canada was a similar environment with some minor differences, including people’s accent, the climate, and languages. However, I still had the stereotypes in my head of an American, just as the Americans had the stereotypes of Canadians. By speaking with my new American friends, I witnessed how the education system differed from the one at home. In Canada, I learned additional information regarding to foreign countries and geography, where as America focused more on their own history and culture. Coming here I had a broader international background than a majority of the Americans did. For example, I could list off nearly all the states where as Americans could hardly list off two provinces in Canada. As this was occasionally frustrating, it made sense because everyone constantly looks to the U.S. for entertainment purposes and what happens in the media as the attention of the entire world. This explains why everyone is extremely familiar and educated with America and the country’s customs. Being here made me realize how America is constantly in the spotlight and made me further aware of countless pull factors to advance in this country. This displays how successful Americans are and the considerable amounts of achievements this country has.
