DBQ #1 During the 17th century, many colonies were founded on the North American continent. The most significant colonies were created by Englishmen who left Europe for several reasons. Even though most colonies were founded by fellow Englishmen, there were two regions that evolved into two distinct societies.
Though the south still had farming, and had joined the union, the south never bounced back to its former self after being decimated in the Civil War. The entire face of the southern economic system changed and their infrastructure was left in ruins after the battles. However before the start of the Civil War, there was a rush of southern pride throughout the south. Many southern residents had a fierce loyalty to their way of life and would die defending it. Thus being one of the main factors in the Civil War.
During the American Revolution, many states wanted to seek independence from Britain. However, Pennsylvania and the Deep South prefered to remain under British rule. Provided that Pennsylvania was a Quaker-controlled government, independence was not favored. The Deep South was largely occupied by Loyalists, colonists who remained supportive of Britain, therefore, they did not want to split from Britain. Pennsylvania and the Deep South were not necessarily interested in seeking independence.
In december of 1860 South Carolina was the first state to secede from the union. They were the first state to use the Confederate flag. Ten other states would join South Carolina in seceding from the Union. The “Rebel Flag” which we see today is what is considered to be the Confederate flag. It is also called the “Stars and Bars Flag.”
When individuals ponder everything that went into the making of our nation, there is a plethora of different events to consider. Regardless of how many events, good or bad, have occurred in American history, all human beings alike tend to look at our history with tunnel vision—only focusing on the good. Our citizens, past and present, everyday people to politicians, either fail to acknowledge the existence of our historic downfalls or they manipulate these downfalls into something justifiable. Even more so now than ever, when bad things occur in America, they get purposely swept under the rug and forcefully shoved into the depths of the closet. The reconstruction that occurred post-Civil War is no exception to this aforementioned flaw.
The Life of a Slave Slavery a name known since the beginning of time but I will be focusing on the year of 1619 to 1865. When Africans first arrived at the colonial America and how they got there. They greatly influenced the lives throughout the thirteen colonies. People failed to realize they were humans just like them.
Southern Slaves and Northern Laborers had many different experiences, even though they were both considered workers. Their compensation, working hours, working conditions, and consequences for breaking rules varied. In the end, the life of a Southern Slave was, mainly, harder than the life of a Northern Laborer. First off, Southern Slaves probably had better compensation than Northern Laborers. Although Northern Laborers were given wages by the factory owners for their work, they ultimately had to pay back the factory owners for their provisions.
I think that understanding the history of African Americans in South Carolina would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the state's culture and society. African Americans have played a significant role in shaping the state's history, and their contributions have been instrumental in making South Carolina what it is today. Without acknowledging and celebrating their contributions, our understanding of South Carolina's culture and society would be incomplete. Additionally, learning about the history of African Americans in South Carolina can help address racial disparities and promote social justice.

The Union had won the civil war, so the next step was to begin to mend the broken relationship between the north and the south. Though historians cannot agree on when it began, there is merit in saying that it started before the end of the Civil War. After victory, had been solidified for the Union, attention of President Lincoln turned towards reconstruction.
With air-conditioning, skyscrapers, interstates, rural improvement to shopping malls, the new South was no more plainly separated from the rest of the country. The political, economic and social change in the South brought historical movements, belief systems and patterns into the Modern South. I will be concentrating on Modern South 's political parties, social identities, culture wars, environmental conditions and change in economic aspects in the middle of WWII and today. By the most recent years of the twentieth century, the Republican Party had turned into a noteworthy power in the South.
Have you ever wondered how life was for the slaves in the South? Slaves in the South suffered through many consequences. For example, they suffered through many whippings with cow skin if they didn't obey their master, they also got separated from their family mostly the fathers, so, they can be sold to a very mean slave owner. Even if they were living a miserable life on the farms, they had their own culture and they managed to even get married in the farmland or where they worked. Not only did the slaves live on the farm.
The African American culture takes pride in cooking and food in general. Food is mostly provided or prepared for any occasion like family reunions, cook outs, holidays, and funerals. My mother and her cousin, Sherrie would decide who house to celebrate holidays or cook outs and each person would cook and prepare the food for any of our family gathers. My mother also prepared traditional southern meals in our home. Home cooked meals are a value in the family as well as the African American culture.
Reconstruction era, which was followed by post-civil war, was meant to unite the states back together, reconstruct properties, and most importantly, abolish slavery in the South. Although the factors such as amendments legally freed former slaves, yet WRITE THESIS After the end of civil war in 1865, Reconstruction era, which was controlled by President Abraham Lincoln, appeared to quickly coalesce the Northern and Southern states. reconstruction amendments, which were approved between 1865 and 1870, played a huge role on giving legal rights to blacks and former slaves. 13th amendment constitutionally abolished slavery in 1865 and followed up by that, 14th and 15th amendment admitted equal citizenship, protection, and rights of suffrage despite the one’s race or skin color. Former slaves were no longer belongings of their owners.
