This folder has multiple kinds of poems that I have written. Some vary from Limerick, Diamante, Tongue-Twister, and Lanterne poems. I am quite proud of the poems I have written, each one has a different inspiration and meaning to me. “Sign-Language” is a limerick I wrote it based on my family’s experience in learning American Sign Language. I wanted to be creative with it and to make it cheerful. This fits with the portfolio because it’s a different type of writing, a type of writing that I don’t usually write. The kind of methods that employed this piece is by making a list. I made a list of words that I could use in my poem and played with the words. I also had to remind myself to make it simple.

This poem is about playing the game Jacks. It’s like the game Jacks brought to life. This piece fits with the portfolio because it was a type of poem I wanted to write. At first, I tried different kinds of objects for this poem, but it was quite hard and it didn’t rhyme. The inspiration of this poem was from a poem I read. The poem was about a pencil brought to life. So, I decided to make this type of poem. The techniques it employs is just rhyming with -ing words. Also to use the right vocabulary to make the game Jacks more realistic. “Soma” is an ode poem I made based on my precious cat, Soma. I described who she was, what she meant to me, and what caused her death. This poem was a timeline of my cat’s life and what she meant to me. The reason why it fits with the portfolio is because I have written memoirs about people I loved but never a poem. This was a new experience and additionally I wanted to do a poem about Soma.
