The movies “The Doctor” directed by Mike Nichols and “Regarding Henry” directed by Randa Haines have many similarities, which connect the two movies as they both have main characters with a very similar lifestyle and personalities. “The Doctor” is about a very successful doctor called Jack McPhee who has a sarcastic personality, he finds out that he is diagnosed with throat cancer and has to experience what every other patient has to. “Regarding Henry” is about a wealthy lawyer called Henry Turner, he gets shot during a robbery, which tampered with his memory, he now has to recover and start his life all over again.

The main connection between the two movies is that Henry and Jack were demanding and aggressive as they were high up in the ranks. At the beginning of the films, Henry and Jack did not associate themselves with their family; Henry did not have a happy father and daughter relationship as he was always at work and did not communicate with his daughter, evidence of this was when he returned home, he asked the maid “what do I do at home?” His maid …show more content…

When Henry was recovering at home, he found out that his wife Sarah was cheating on him, Sarah said “everything was different,” “we were miserable” before the incident with Henry happened, he soon found out that he was cheating her on with a co-worker as well. This shows that they did not like each other at the time. In the doctor, it seemed like Jack was ignoring Anne, Anne was worried about Jacks surgery but he kept telling her to go home instead of waiting for him. Their relationship improves throughout the movie, when Henry found out that he was also cheating on his wife, he forgave her. A couple of days before Jacks major surgery, June, who was also a patient and one of the friends he made died. After the surgery, Jack lost his voice and could only communicate by writing.
