Regional difference did significantly increase between 1800 and 1848 in a couple of areas, mainly; economic difference due to different markets and focus on technological advancements, politically for each regions attempts to preserve their now differing economies, and socially in response to different markets and political views.
The north and the south have always had different markets, the south has always been focused on agriculture, due to a better climate for growing, while the north hasn’t completely focused on industrial, though it 's always been more industrialized than the south. This became clear with the introduction of the factory to the north and the cotton gin to the south. The factory allowed the north to focus on making textile and clothing while the south provide them with the material, cotton that they were growing and harvesting quicker than before due to the cotton gin. The north also continued receiving road and railroads and embracing advancement in transport like steamboats, canals the telegraph, allowing them to transport goods and information quicker. At the same time the south focused mainly on just growing crops and slavery, as slavery was economically important the south agriculture. Just several years earlier the north had not minded for slavery but as their reliance on them reduced they began to realize that it was immoral. Starting in 1831 with the publication of William Lloyd Garrison’s anti slavery newsletter “The Liberator” which called for the abolishment of slavery. Simultaneously the south began defending slavery. They began demanding the end of Garrison’s newspaper and the state of Georgia even offered $5,000 for his capture. Politicians such as John C.
