During this time period there was many writers writing both for and against the South. A major person in history, Thomas Jefferson, would write against the North and for the South. That is only one of many example from back then, but at this time some of the greatest critics of the South were from the South. Some people believe the South has such a long memory on the civil war because they lost, and even though some people in the current South want many of their peers to just forget about that time in history, many will not give it up.
After the civil war and with the assassination of President Lincoln the south was forced to go through the reconstruction. Reconstruction was a highly oppressive system, under the guise of readmitting states into the union that the north used to make the rebel states pay for the civil war. The south was lawless to a certain degree and those who had been part of the confederacy were punished severely. Even coming to a point of having to beg the president for their rights For all practical purposes the north made reconstruction as hard for the south as possible, and because of this reconstruction caused more harm than good to either side.
They had a more strict interpretation of the constitution. In other words, they believed that the only way the government could do something is if the Constitution explicitly allowed it. Each side argued how the Constitution proved their beliefs, however neither side got very far in the effort to resolve these issues, as it was many of these problems that ultimately led to the Civil War. Throughout the Antebellum Era, Northerners and Southerners greatly disagreed on many issues due to their respective viewpoints of the Constitution. The North tried to fight off the tariff and the national bank through their loose interpretation of the Constitution, while the South used their strict interpretation to say that both the tariff and national bank were constitutional.
Many things led to the Civil war. One being slavery. The debate over the future of slavery had brought many trails and with the help of other disputes soon led to war. The Northern and Western states where fighting to purify the union. While the South fought to gain independence under its own constitution.
The North had many advantages over the South the helped them win the civil war. These reasons included a central leadership, more resources, and recruiting black men for their armies. These reasons helped the North win the civil war and play a big part in how successful they would be. With having advantages, better tactics when fighting, and also a higher population, the North would use strategic planning to fight the South and ultimately win the civil war.

The North financed its industrial development through taxed imposed by Congress on imported goods. They never ever touched the question of slavery.

The north and the south had completely different economies and cultures in the same country so wanted to divide as they couldn't come to an agreement; south felt as the people in the north were commanding them to change their lifestyle because it suited the Northern developed economy but did not benefit the agricultural economy the south had. The idea of sectionalism emerged, this is loyalty to the interests of one’s own region or section of the country, rather than the country as a whole. This is a precursor to separatism which caused the civil war.
