Is There a Link Between Depression & Abortions? Abortions are probably the most difficult decision a woman could make in her lifetime. An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy when the fetus isn't outside the womb yet. Regardless of whether abortions are morally right or wrong, they still occur. The side effects of an abortion are what really should matter after the abortion has occurred. Yet I believe, as well as some other researchers, having an abortion doesn’t directly cause depression. Depression is a serious illness that occurs within the United States majority of the time within different age group. It is caused by genetic, psychological, and other facts. Which would conclude having an abortion might leave you sad for a while, but more emotionally stable than a newly stressed mother.
Salynn Boyles gathered information and informed us about abortions within the United States, “half of all abortions in the U.S. Each year are performed on women under age of 25.” That should basically let us know that young women are more prone to have an abortion depending on their situations. She also concluded, “For the most part women who aborted a first pregnancy had the same risk for later depression as women who chose to give birth.” This reveals there isn’t any special link between abortions and depression.
