Law Enforcement Relationships
The issue focused on is the way communities have been impacted greatly due to the relationships between police officials and young gang members. The reason why it’s up to the communities is because they feel endangered with gang activity throughout the streets. Quite often law officers are involved, but most of the time they don’t do much. People feel this resentment towards officers mainly because of the point of view. The Law Enforcement has no positive influence on teen gang members due to teenagers mentality, lack of trust between teenagers and police officers and the way the officers handle the situation.

“ Police violence is notoriously common in Oakland, and community activists hoped that a strong conviction would be a signal to cops across the country that enough is enough. Instead, we got another reminder of who has power in America--and who does not “ (Healey 1). Quite frequently cops will win the case regardless if they were wrong or right as a result, it causes people to become angry and express hatred towards officers. They expect people to understand these incidents, but this just causes the community and the people to react in an upset manor. They lose trust with the system because they’ve witnessed that there was no justice given to the officer who killed this innocent man. In addition, this incident caused more hatred because the officer was white and Mr. Grant was African American, this was a clear view of racism in modern day. The authority figures take advantage of their job and using innocent people is not the best way of getting the community to have trust in them. Officers own no positive influence in them and the law enforcement has no way to change that. Moreover It takes time and the mentality teen gang members obtain also does not help pave the way to a better lifestyle. Being an optimistic officer will not help trying to change their views could help, but this bond between the two may never change. There is no trust and without trust there is no backbone and no positive effect. Things just aren’t handled and prosecuted out correctly overall on both ends.
