Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie Crawford, marries three different men throughout her life. Logan Killicks, Jody Starks, and Tea Cake all were very different in which they taught Janie a new perspective of love. Throughout the story Janie reveals the hardships that she endures with all three men. Each guy had a different personality and characteristics that made them each different from one another in which they show their strengths and weaknesses. Janie's relationships all were unique in various ways which are shaped by their personalities and events that happen. Janie's concept of love is far from the truth in which she discovers. He is a confident man that would win over the hearts of the town people and later be the mayor where they lived. Jody was invested in his success and wanted to feel loved and known by everyone. When he became mayor he insisted on Janie to be attending work in the store he built alongside a post office. He was a very ambitious man and wanted to make a name for himself in the town. He ended up being a very successful mayor and spent much of his time and money on being influenced in the community. To the people he was praised for being such a good man giving back to his community but to Janie he was no different than Logan Killicks. Jody was a possessive and controlling husband, he would get jealous whenever Janie would get attention, as it would affect his name in a place he built for himself. Jody would not let Janie put out statements when being interviewed and insisted on her staying at the store working. Compared to Logan and Jody he was much younger than them and didn't have the intention to be possessive and control Janie. He was very adventurous and took risks in life, which was very different from her other husbands that wanted more stability and security. Tea Cake respected and made Janie feel valued and loved unlike Logan and Jody. Tea Cake brought out a new side of Janie that she never knew he had, they went on fishing trips, hunting trips, picnics together. They as well went to do manual labor and pick beans, which Janie found challenging but a new experience she never knew she would experience. Tea Cake trusts Janie and he doesn't feel threatened by other men but feels the need to be kind and caring and let Janie have the freedom she deserves. Janie enjoyed spending time with Tea Cake and loved the new experiences that he brought into her
