The Protestant Reformation had a massive sway on the visual arts in Northern European art. One of the main changes was that holy imagery was no longer the most significant feature in art. Iconoclasm took over as Protestant reformers encouraged the removal of pious images. The patrons of the north became more captivated in secular concepts and ideas, and they also wanted their messages about ethics to be shown in fewer godly behaviors. The Reformation led artists to seek patrons outside of the church; and several different types of themes were requested during this time.

3. In your opinion, how does art serve religion in our own time? Art and religion has always gone hand-in-hand. With that being said not all religion uses art in the same form, their will be differences.
For example calligraphy was a beautiful art form and in document 6, calligraphy in the shape of a bird is seen as art. This intricate detailed art was used to reflect the glory of allah. Muslims are not allowed to put humans in their art so caligraphy was a way to express their love for allah respectfully. Calligraphy was used to add decoration to buildings and objects as well. This art form diffused into Europe and Asia becoming a popular style.
Art has traditionally been used in ceremonies and rituals long before pen and paper. It was used in the soil that was smoothed for inscription of sacred designs . Art was ephemeral and natural materials were used to tell stories in sand, on trees, rocks bark, bodies and other natural substances to illustrate their stories and songs. Present day Aboriginal art, as we know it, originated in 1971 with the arrival of Geoff Bardon in Papunya. Geoff was an art teacher and artist.
Architecture is also art you see these high skyscraper they all have blue prints, which is a rough draft of the drawing, and some of the designs used in architecture are a form of art because it creates many different patterns using tons of colors, shapes and sizes. As you can see, many things we use in our daily life contain little bit of art. There is always a meaning behind any artwork; you just have to look to notice. The artist expresses himself or herself though out art by using different type of painting skills, Sometimes people can get attached to a certain type of canvas because of the way it makes them feel or because they feel a certain enjoyment, when I went to the art gallery tons of bright colored paintings made me feel joy. In my art 1301 class I have learned tons of great information about art and I can use it towards my future, art is everywhere and you are able to express yourself because of art, because of this class I know that there is more then just modern art, art contains different skills.
Religion often times is depicted as a specific institution that follows the teaching of the Bible, Torah, or the Quran. People fail to realize that religion can stand as anything for any particular person depending on their values. These values bring about sacred symbols, object, or systems to
Cathedrals of the Middle Ages had to spread their message to all kinds of people. Both believers and non-believers as well as people capable of reading and the illiterate. The church had to find a way to ensure that everyone who came to a Cathedral- no matter where they were in their faith or reading capabilities, could at least grasp the main ideas and teachings of Christianity. For those who could not read, which was the majority of the people who visited the Cathedrals, the message of Christianity was expressed in visual form. Art made from stone or glass and the like were used to illustrate Christian teachings by having this art built or added into the Cathedrals.
During the ancient times many cultures and races viewed art as something important for their lifestyles and part of their culture. Portraiture was one of the often used forms of art that either represented someone who once lived or a god that they worshipped. These forms of art were really important for various reasons, whether it was for worship, remembrance of the person or god, remembrance of an important day, tomb markers, etc. Three examples of portraitures made during the ancient times are: ‘Victory Stele of Naram-sin’, ‘Hatshepsut with Offering Jars’, and ‘Khafre Enthroned’. Each of these three pieces of art played a big role on the lives of the owners because it depicted them in the way that they wanted to be depicted.

Artwork is what gives our life much more flavor to it. Life without art would be dull, and lackluster. Everything would be so basic, bare, and simple. Creativity is what really makes artwork amazing. People really enjoy some artists artwork, and are very passionate about it.
Art is known to have impacted humankind as from time memorial. In many occasions when people wanted to pass the information, they were only using paintings to communicate. Many kingdoms were known to give information about their values and beliefs through paintings made on their walls. Most of the paintings use to speak a lot about the religion of the Kingdom, and sometimes romantic pictures were used to expound more on how such kingdoms were committed to taking care of individuals emotions. Baroque paintings were used especially for matters to do with religion.
Should art be censored? Throughout history, many have felt the need to remove or suppress material that they consider to be morally or politically objectionable, such as books, films, or other materials. They feel that these materials should not be taught in schools or shown in public museums. These people believe no one should be subjected to something that may be against their teachings or beliefs. Others, however, do not feel that these or any works of art should be suppressed.
Art is the mirror of any culture and its worldly views. The art of Muslim world mirrors its social values and uncovers the way Muslims see the spiritual domain and the universe. Muslims all over the world embrace the identical system of belief and each one of them is well familiar with the spiritual connection regardless of nationwide, racial differences or conflicts. They consider themselves to be Muslim as a matter of paramount importance. This strong sense of identity and stability inclined en route for a high level of societal and richest artistic traditionalism.
