Academia and spirituality are divinely intertwined since the first days of their conceptions. From the Royal Library of Alexandria in thirty B.C. Egypt dedicated to the Muses the nine goddesses of the arts, to the ivy league Harvard College (now Harvard University) named after the New England Puritan clergyman John Harvard. Religion and academics are inseparable throughout the course of human history. If Religion can be found in literature, mathematics, astronomy, and many other facets of history, it serves as a fundamental part of many individuals lives, because of religion it is imperative to study and integrate of religion within the University classroom. If not believed in religion should still serve as a looking glass to the past and maybe even deeply imbedded conflict in the future. In past centuries, institutions that educate had been founded to educate clerics and ministers in religious teachings. The first of these Universities were created in Italy and evolved from Cathedral schools for the clergy during the High Middle Ages to modern institutions. Fast-forward a couple years, the founding of other private and public universities also helped to loosen the tight grip of religious ideology on education. Schools such as the University of Oxford and the University of Bologna operated under the idea of Constitutio Habita in which research was legally protected. The importance of this meant that schools were allowed to challenge and adapt new ideas, essentially spawning protected innovation. The question that has been pondered since the conception, the infinitesimally large and yet small moment in the time continuum that has given breath to the known universe. Every challenge, every argument, every diversification at a university leads to a betterment and advancement of human resolve. Shelter from this ideological serenity in itself is a leap of faith that breeds catastrophe to the tenacity of living for a future. Curiosity is something known only to those who chose to think the deepest, challenge the most; university nurtures the curiosity for the past to inspire a future that does not rear the same mistakes. Religion is a necessity for academic institutions to use as a tool to explain the world in front and behind them. Stripping away the superfluous bureaucracy and degrees of accomplishment, the shell that is left is education.
