Between the 1500’s and 1600’s absolute monarchs had a great power over their kingdoms. Absolute monarch means one monarch who has unlimited power over a kingdom. During this time absolute monarchs believed that they had the “divine right” to rule over a kingdom, because they were chosen from God to be on the throne. Absolute monarchs did not share power with moves, parliaments, or the church. The absolute monarchs of the 1500’s and 1600’s showed that they held a great deal of power over their kingdoms.
Most of the population were poor farmers, that had no idea what was happening within the country. Obviously this system was not the best. Eventually countries found a more efficient way of running their countries. A single ruler began to consolidate the power from the city-states and make a more uniform government for the country. The ways these absolute monarchs consolidated and increased their powers were similar in the 1600s and 1700s, by decreasing the nobles’ powers, increasing military, and increasing bureaucracy.
During the sixteenth and seventeenth century, many scientists had developed a new perspective on the world around them. Scientists such as Galileo and Copernicus envisioned a world where natural phenomenons could be proved through experimentation. Furthermore, the work of scientists during this time period were affected by the approval of political figures, the support from influential members of the church, and social factors that influenced the development and acceptance of new theories. To powerful political figures, scientific theories were regarded as an opportunity to gain power and money.
A single monarch ruling is not the most effective way to control the country due to how “There will be no liberty where the executive, legislative, and judicial powers are united in one person or body of persons. ”(Doc 6). The primary benefit an absolute monarchy has is how it stabilizes a country, but it is not a government form that will aid the country for an extended period of time, especially with how a single person makes all the decisions in society. A democracy allows different groups of people to negotiate and decide what occurs in the branches of government, making the decision and compromise more reasonable than when a single person executes a sudden idea. With everyone compromising the best solution, the result will satisfy everyone’s interests.
During the Scientific Revolution, natural philosophers developed a new scientific worldview. A heliocentric model of the universe replaced the geocentric model that was already in place and widely used. Different methods for discovering scientific laws such as Natural rights were developed. Scientist believed in a universe of matter in motion, which was reasoned with mathematics and experiments. Philosophes organized into societies widespread throughout Europe to make the spread of knowledge and ideas easier.
These include the transition of an absolute monarchy to a constitution one (and ultimately, in the mid-19th century, to no monarch at all), a migration of belief from the asserted divine right of kings to one of popular sovereignty, the jettisoning of corporate privileges of the nobility and church, and with it, a civil equality in taxes and rule of law and in religious belief, and the establishment of merit and talent in lieu of birth hierarchy as the basis of societal structure. The French Revolution had major effects on different groups of people including the monarch, the nobility, the clergy, peasants, urban workers, slaves, and women. The tumult of the last decade of 18th century France had profound effects on these different groups, some gaining political equality, others political freedom, and others pronounced suffering, loss, and even public execution. The Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment were two of the greatest, most important changes of the early modern era which greatly altered the course of history in most of Europe. While the Scientific Revolution preceded the Enlightenment, both time periods sought to limit and challenge the power of the Church, through the spread of science, reason and intellect, and political philosophies. The Scientific Revolution began with Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1542) and Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) wanting to understand the movement of the planets beyond what they authorities had told them.
In the 19th century, Manifest Destiny was a theory created by John O'Sullivan, an American editor and columnist, where he believes that the destiny of American settlers was to expand to the west, while at the same time spread their traditions and their institutions. As a result, many Americans settlers expanded beyond the west coast and gained more land as it caused them to built transcontinental railroads and many other great things. In addition, the American settlers considered the United States to be the best possible way to remake the world in the image of their own country as they believe God had blessed them with the growth of American nation. After encouragement to the Western Expansion, major changes such as technology, social economics, and the roles of women had great effects toward the Americans’ way of living, where it became known as the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution sparked the way how Americans’ lives changed thanks to advance and new modern technologies that were invented.
