In the middle of the Pacific ocean lies a large, secluded island called Reno. No one ever enters or leaves the island alive. The ocean waters surrounding the island are hazardous, and not a second passes when the skies around Reno are clear and storms are not present. This prevents helicopters and airplanes from being able to enter the area. Everyone who lives in Reno is there to stay. Reno is not just any other ordinary island, though, in Reno each and every person is born knowing the day that they will die. Inscribed into everyone’s right foot is a faint scar that reads their deathdate. It is very rare that anyone die young. Accidents and young illness are rare occurrences in Reno. Most people in Reno die around the age of one hundred and pass in their sleep. It is a generous thing, really. Although, for someone who is meant to die at a younger age this usually isn't the case.

Everyone tries to think of it as a celebration, just like how you celebrate your birthday, they celebrate their death day. The people of Reno throw parties a few days before their deathday and invite all of their friends and family. Everyone thinks of it as celebrating the great life that they have lived.
Aspen is a sixteen-year-old girl who lives in Reno. She is an only child and is an average teenager with nothing out of the ordinary about her, except for one thing. She is one of the very few people of Reno meant to die at a young age. The scar on her right foot reads “8/14/17”. On this date she will still only be sixteen.
