How is instant replay technology affecting sports?
Instant replay is used in most if not all of the major sports around the world. The advancing technology has been met with various degrees of satisfaction with the fan base of each game. Some accepting and not arguing with the new technology being implemented into the games. Fans on the other side of the spectrum are against the addition of this technology because it is taking away the “Challenge” of the sports. The purpose of this essay is to see the affect replay technology has on sports.

Baseball is already a slow game with the introduction of replays and possible power outages not allowing them to get access to the replay footage making them have to pause for power to return and allow the replay to be viewed. 27th October 2015 game 1 of the MLB World Series on Tuesday the game was delayed seven minutes because the Fox Sports Network lost power, meaning the umpires had no access to the Replay footage. (1). In NFL the game is slowed for most plays, the final seconds of the game – the quarterback throws to the end zone: touchdown! No, the official is ruling the receiver was out of bounds, now comes the agonizing wait while the play is reviewed. (3). With most arguments towards the Instant replay technology the most common one is that fans and team owners prefer to keep the human factor in the game. Officiating errors are part of the history and lord of the game, (2). The system originally took too much time that the game abandoned the replay in 1992. During the 1998 season many calls were disputed so in 2002 the rules returned revised and refurbished. These upgraded rules gave coaches power to call for reviews in most areas of the game. They assigned the referee the duty of making the decision. Before these rules were made permanent in 2007, even with the upgraded rules and technology some plays aren’t reviewable even so the reviews still take much of the game time with Instant Replay
