Between the images of fire, night, and death one that shows up often is death. Death is the image that shows up the most because it is basically what started the whole Holocaust. Hitler and his party’s agenda was to kill of all the Jews. It is also the main focus through the book because many of the Jewish prisoners knew what was supposed to happen to them in the camps. Every single one of them saw the death of many people first hand.
In the memoir “Night” written by Ellie Wiesel it tells a story during the time of world war two. The story describes how people were mistreated and showed what they went through during the time. Not only how they (the jews) were treated during the time, it explained how they weren't allowed to show their real selves without being judged or looked upon as nothing. The main character in the book is a boy named Ellie, he lived with his parents in Sighet Transylvania. Later on his instructor faces a traumatic experience regarding the nazi’s.

In the mid-nineteenth century, a girl named Ni-bo-wi-se-gwe (Oona) was born in pitch darkness in the middle of the day when the sun and moon crossed paths. The book Night Flying Woman by Ignatia Broker is the biography of Broker’s great-great-grandmother, Oona. It describes Oona’s life through what Broker has learned from her grandparents when they passed down the stories. In the book, one of the main themes is passing traditions on. I chose this theme because, in the book, passing traditions on is a major part of the characters’ culture.
In the popular book Night by Eli Wiesel, Night is a popular motif here are a few examples. “Night after night he went from one Jewish house to the next…” the event this takes place in is when Moshe the Beadle is trying to explain to everyone what horrible tragedies happened to him when he was taken away by Nazi’s but then returned. Another quote like this is, “ I spent that night going over memories and ideas and was unable to fall asleep.”
The themes of masculinity and American ideals heavily influence this film. Men are presented to be powerful in this film, and that power derives from the fact that they carry guns and commit acts of violence. In the film, almost all of the males have either a pistol or a shotgun. This depiction is inaccurate, as most people in the west didn’t own a firearm. In contrast, women in the film are portrayed to be the weaker gender, being present only to take care of their partner.
In the memoir ‘Night’ by Elie Wiesel, he (Elie himself) penned his time in a Jewish ghetto and - later on - in Auschwitz. As the reader gets closer to Elie through his work, he shows his heart and how he wishes that he could have helped others that were close to him in their hour of need. Firstly, he regrets not being a more caring older brother to Tzipora. ‘Where is... Tzipora...’(45) he asked his father, not showing concern for his older sisters, but just Tzipora. This shows that he wanted to be that amazing big brother that everyone that has one would ever want, but he - unfortunately - could not when they were separated into genders.

Years after the Holocaust occurs, Wiesel shows the harsh treatment on him and his peers, enforced by the Schutzstaffel, such as working with great starvation and tiredness. The writing reveals the feelings of oppressed; starved; weakening men under the rule of fascist Nazis.

Elie 's autobiographical memoir informs the reader about how the Nazis captured the Jews and enslaved them in concentration camps, where they experienced the absolute worst forms of torture, abuse and inhumane treatment. Dehumanization is shown in the story when the Jews were stripped of their identities and belongings, making them feel worthless as people. From the start of Elie Wiesel 's journey of the death camps, his beliefs of his own religion is fragile as he starts to lose his faith. Lastly, camaraderie is present as people in the camps are all surviving together to stay alive so as a result the people in the camp shine light on other people 's darkness.

Rape on the Night Shift is a documentary about the sexual assaults that some of the janitors suffer while working at night. This documentary reveals the injustice that these workers have to go through because most of them are undocumented and they don’t know their rights. The experiences of woman in this documentary is correlated with the feminist theory, the idea of seeing women unequal to men and the idea of the men having the power to control women. Indeed, the documentary let us see the gender inequality, exploitation, and the de-valuing of woman’s work. We see the feminist theory in the documentary when the managers or supervisors sexually abuse of their workers.
The Thousand and one nights offers a unique perspective on the roles of women in that society. The roles of women are really interesting because they are treated different in numerous circumstances. On one hand, they are shown to be powerless, and on the other hand, some are shown to have absolute control. Throughout the beginning of the story, the status of women seemed to go from getting brutal and wicked treatment by men, to their ability to fight back, and then they are revealed as somewhat heroic. There are some major differences in how men and women are portrayed in The Thousand and One Nights.
They use their sexuality to control and manipulate the man into doing her bidding, often these tasks are immoral acts that will benefit her, however, it would bring eventual destruction for the man. The femme fatales is often brought to justice and punished by the protagonist, ultimately she gets destroyed. Beckman adds that “the dangerous woman is almost always punished for her threat to masculinity and male power. The strong, independent, and sexually provocative femme fatale is typically subdued toward the end of the film noir, through her death, her abandonment, or her "rescue" from moral decline by a man. If it is correct that a certain Hollywood realism tends to confirm a patriarchal status quo through coordinating the gradual unmasking of the sexual power of the woman with the "epistemological drive of the narrative," then this tradition of narrative continuity itself must be of interest” (p 26-27).
