The Struggle Between Life and Death Many times a mother is someone to look up to as tenderhearted, or inspirational, but what if instead she is abusive, and emotionally unstable? Furthermore, there are many stories out there relating to the concept of abusive mothers. One of the most sorrowful, and heart wrenching abusive stories takes places in the autobiography called A Child Called “It” written by Dave Pelzer. Dave, also known as David, shows much admiration in the book since he has to withstand all of the barbaric punishments his mother gives him at such a young age. In consideration of the foregoing, David's autobiography showcases much admiration when forced to face horrific punishments by his mother that comes close to life or death. For instance, one quality includes during the whole process his mother was abusing him, not once did he go to the police, or go for help. However, the nurse questioned him many times about the bruises he had, and he finally gave in (7). In addition, he was given a chance to tell the truth about his mother when a lady from social services came to his house, but instead he was brainwashed by his mother to think things were back to normal (124-125). Another unlikeable quality consists of when during the process that his mother started to abuse him, he began to lie to others. For example, when David first started going to the nurse he would lie about his injuries to prevent his mother getting into trouble (6). On the other hand, his mother brainwashed him to think that if he ever told the truth he would even get punished more, and she would also threaten to kill him.
