Every child is innocent when he is born; he learns from what he is taught or experiences. During 1692, Salem village was a very religious place, where fun and joy were concealed. Abigail grew up as an orphan, the Native Americans killed Abby’s parent when she was at a young age. After her parent’s death, her uncle, Reverend Parris, adopted Abigail. At first Abigail had been working for John Proctor as a servant, however after john Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth, found out Abigail was seducing her husband, she kicked Abigail out and send her back to her uncle. In Salem village, people think that children wouldn’t lie, through this belief; Abigail will lie in order to gain power. Is not all Abigail fault that she became such a maleficent person, it was also because of the society and the environment she was in.

Abigail was born as an “orphan” (Abigail Williams, seventeen, enters - a strikingly beautiful girl, an orphan), because of this she never experienced much love until she met proctor, and this made her value love a lot. In act 1 scene 1, Abigail said, “I know how you clutched my back behind your house and …… and you loved me then and you do now!” (Miller, Scene 1, Pg.22) This quote shows that Abigail still want john proctor. Because of Elizabeth; Abigail couldn’t become Proctor’s lover (Abigail’s thought), this made her feel that Elizabeth took her love away, this drove Abigail to a vindictive person, and try to take revenge by accusing Elizabeth of doing witchcraft. In proctor’s quote he said, “She thinks to dance with me on my wife’s grave!” (Miller, Act 3, PG 110) this shows the purpose of Abigail accusing
