Holidays celebrate an area’s culture and/or the day(s) it commemorates with various festivities and traditions. In Theodore Geisel’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the light-hearted denizens of Who-Ville are preparing to celebrate Christmas. For the Whos, it is a time of fun and merryness, in which they sing and play with one another. This is a time of camaraderie and fellowship between everyone in the town. Apart from this is the antagonist, the Grinch, who dreads the holiday along with the singing, feasting, and other festive activities that the holiday inspires.
The economy of the United States expanded greatly through the 1920 's reaching its climax in August 1929. By this point, production had already declined and unemployment was at an all-time high, leaving stocks to imitate their real value. During the stock market crash of 1929, better known as Black Tuesday, investors traded vast numbers of shares in a single day, causing billions of dollars to be lost and millions of investors to be eliminated. This "crash" signaled the beginning of a decade long Great Depression that would affect all Western industrialized nations; a crash that would later become known as one of the darkest, longest lasting, economic downturns in American history. People all around the world suffered greatly as personal income,
In the year 1492 there was a man name Christopher Columbus traveling around the sea when all of the sudden he found land soon to be called America. In America this trip is celebrated with Columbus Day. Americans should not celebrate Columbus Day because Columbus murdered and cruel native Americans. Columbus killed Native Americans with dogs, fire, and smallpox. Columbus was cruel to Native Americans the things he did was cut off their hands, made them slaves, and raped the Native women.
Good Evening Prof. Ellis, I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break! I know I enjoyed a nice home cooked meal, however, the reason I am emailing you is to make sure I don 't have my "final grade docked" because I didn 't send in excuses for my absences. I am positive I have missed over three absences, so attached are doctor 's notes for two of the days I missed. I know there is a chance my grade would not have been affected, but I did not want to risk it. Thanks.
In his article, Leonard first begins by comparing Thanksgiving to Black Friday. He believes that Black Friday is taking away from quality time with our families. He continues to discuss the ways people act while shopping on this day. Possible solutions to the problem, Leonard suggests, include making Black Friday later to avoid having it take over Thanksgiving.
In the article, “School Slams Door on Santa” written by Todd Starnes, a Connecticut school has placed a ban on all religious symbols, including Christmas trees and Santa Claus. At the Fairfield Ludlowe High School, there is a door decorating contest yearly and many students and teachers are excited to participate. In one of the classrooms, many students produced ideas including a Christmas tree and a “Santa Claus-inspired fireplace design”. Both ideas had gotten rejected by the teacher, leaving many students confused on why they could not use their non-offensive and creative ideas. Starnes hear the drama from a friend whose child goes to the high school so he decides to call the headmaster, Greg Hatzis to confirm the accusations.
Have you ever thought about the origins of our holidays? Columbus day in particular has recently been controversial. Maybe the textbook version isn’t the same as the truth. The truth about Christopher Columbus provides evidence that Columbus day should be abolished. First off, he didn’t even care about any of the Native Americans.
I think Columbus Day should not be a national holiday. For example, Columbus took over the natives land. He thought he discovered it himself, but he didn’t. Another thing is, Columbus wanted to conquer the men in the village and make them be his slaves. In fact, he brought over diseases from Italy, and other places.

On Monday, Americans across the country celebrate Columbus Day by remembering it exists, frantically trying to figure out if they have to go to work, and then being disappointed when they do. Literally no one uses Columbus Day for its intended purpose of remembering that Christopher Columbus exists. Not even the world 's greatest mattress sale could stop Columbus Day from being the worst federal holiday in America. Here 's why: Christopher Columbus was terrible It 's become pretty cliché at this point to note, because it 's been done to great effect by everyone from famous historians like Howard Zinn and Eduardo Galeano to snarky digital natives like Gawker and The Oatmeal, but Christopher Columbus was a terrible human being.
Thanksgiving is slowly becoming just another shopping day and retailers are saying that they are just doing what the shoppers want. Whether or not the stores should be open on Thanksgiving has been becoming a more heated topic. Articles 1,2, and 3 covered this very topic. However, articles 1 and 2 have a strong argument against the stores being open with good facts and statistics. Article 3 is very opinionated and rambles on and on.
A debate has arisen due to the decision to not have a snow day today. When winter comes this debate always seems to be a common disagreement. Should schools have a snow day, or should they keep the doors open? When snow hits the ground and the roads become icy should you really risk your life just to go to school?
Every year, millions of defenseless beings are mercilessly slaughtered, ripped from their lives and devoured in the name of the tradition that is Thanksgiving. This atrocity is not only allowed, but it is also encouraged and celebrated. This slaughter is seen as an integral element of American culture and identity, and is supported by nearly everyone, heedless of its toll on innocent life. It is a terrible practice that mars America’s reputation as a place of equality and justice. Despite its long history, the tradition of eating turkey on Thanksgiving must end because it is an awful and unfair annual massacre, turkeys aren’t particularly nutritious, and it is unimaginably cruel to tear someone from their family like that.
Today, Thanksgiving is represented in a positive way but only because we leave out the parts of history that don’t go along with the story we want. Media portrays a different story than the
