Things that form an identity of a person are important as they can alter a person's life. The memoir Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline Woodson tells us the important events in her life that formed her into the person she is today. Jaqueline was born on February 12, 1963, and from there, her life consisted of happy memories of her family and the tragic deaths that came after. Her family also allowed her to see different views of the world and forced her to limit the consequences of it. The events in her life involving family were the most impactful as they showed her new ways of looking at her life. Jacqueline’s family had the greatest influence on her identity so far. Jaqueline’s parents have impacted her to see different perspectives on how people perceive her race. After being away from Ohio for a long time, Jaqueline’s father comes to bring them back home as she explains, “This fight is over for now Tomorrow we will travel as a family back to Columbus Ohio Hope and Dell fighting for a place on my fathers lap Greenville with its separate ways growing small behind us” (Woodson 35).
