Numerous types of lighting were exposed in Jaws. The natural light makes the pictures more accurate. The capability to adjust the vividness makes the frightening parts even creepier. It lets the viewers to recognize that the shark is routing towards somebody. Pair of methods are negative space, darkness, lighting for serenity.
Catcher in the Rye For the project, I chose to complete the movie poster. I decided to assign this to myself because I think if a movie has an eye catching and intriguing poster, the movie may incline more of an interest to view. Another reason I chose the poster was, as an artistic individual, I believe this was the perfect fit as an assignment, it would make work easier, more enjoyable and engaging. By choosing the movie poster it assisted with an increase of learning and understanding repetitiveness and connecting it to the main theme of the story, which the poster depicts. There are many ways to display what the story was, I believe a big part of the story was about saving and protecting innocence.
People say a picture is worth a thousand words. Just about every picture has rhetorical elements incorporated into their design. In this case, the well-crafted poster for Steven Spielberg’s film, Jaws, implements the use of ethos, pathos and logos in an attempt to get its audience to see the film. The poster for jaws is very effective at gaining the audience’s attention through the use of graphic pictures.
Let me ask you a question Do you prefer movies or books? Do you think a book benefits you more or a movie benefits you more than a book? What I think is that neither is better. They Both have unique qualities. The reason is because I think that when you read the book you can see what you read in your mind and when you see the movie you see what you read.
Jaws has a lot of film techniques but the ones that stood out to me the most were really exciting like the eye level shot, where the woman is in the water and all you see is her face and some people swimming behind her. She appears to be pretty calm in the start but then she sees he 's sharks fin out of nowhere. The camera then points to to the shark fin. Then the eye level shot points back to her where she makes the expression that she would have if a real shark were to be there, which gives us a feel for what we would do if we were in her place.
For example, Jaws was the first film that featured a new type of insane character, the giant shark. “Jaws changed the face of American cinema, influencing the next generation of filmmakers to eye summer release dates, high-concept ideas, easy marketability, teaser trailers, TV spots, media junkets, merchandising, and the almighty dollar” (Stephens). In summary, the movie itself brought about many changes, but the shark dreamed up and created by Spielberg inspired new subjects and characters in other future films. Without Jaws, the film industry would not have chased after these new ideas and concepts like having an enormous shark as the main character. Furthermore, Spielberg was one of the first to bring aliens into a motion picture and with that came inspiration.

They feature an alarming danger that is threatening the protagonist throughout the film, making the viewer feel concerned. In one of the most classic suspense films, Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, a killer shark shows itself as a threat to an entire New England town after it attacks and kills a swimmer. The shark poses a hazard to the beachgoers of the town, but the mayor doesn’t want to close the beaches in fear of losing tourist money in the area. Martin Brody, the police chief, and two others decide to hunt down the shark in order to protect the people and return safety to the waters.

Jaws 1 was released in 1975 and was one of the first horror films ever, so people didn’t know how to take a shark killing a person within the first five minutes of the movie. People now probably wouldn’t consider Jaws to be a horror film because it doesn’t fit the modern scary movie fright. When Jaws was released everyone loved it because there hadn’t been to many horror films before this one and eventually tbey ended up making a few more that in my opinion weren’t as good as the original, although Jaws has many intense moments and tons of screaming I don’t think Jaws is a horror film. To some people in 2017 Jaws is even considered a comedy, even though I wouldn’t go that far. “The screams started and they never stopped.”
Steven Spielberg has been directing movies since 1959, developing his own ways of directing movies. He is an intelligent film maker, selecting only the best shots to use in his films. He’s strategic, choosing specific cinematic techniques to provoke an emotional response in the audience. Among these are his choices in lighting, framing, music, and even the length of his takes. Some movies that particularly convey this are Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial; some of his most iconic.

Continuing on from last with the film Jaws, this week discussed different types of editing. Jaws is a great example to use when examining distinct editing styles because it uses a wide variety. The way a movie is edited can have a major effect on the viewing experience. To understand film, we must understand how they work. It is not difficult to grasp the concept of movies after viewing a few, but as Christian Metz wrote, “A film is difficult to explain because it is so easy to understand.”

The Search For a New America The Searchers, directed by John Ford, First comes across as a heroic journey of an uncle and nephew in the dangerous wild west on the search of their kidnapped loved one. However, as the story progresses, we see an even deeper meaning and emotionally complex significance behind their journey. As the story unravels we find that our supposed protagonist is the highly flawed Ethan Edwards, played by John Wayne, is an Indian-hating civil war veteran that was always seen as an outsider from the moment he entered the first frame. The film techniques used in this film include framing shots,non-diegetic elements, western conventions, high and low angle shots and close ups.
