Locke’s Theory of personal identity
John Locke was the first philosopher to provide a modern defence of the psychological solution to the problem of personal identity, in his book Essays Concerning Human Understanding. Locke writes about a body switch between the prince and a cobber.
Locke’s book with a twist by Theodore Sider talks about two separate men and person whom come across switching self-consciousness and remember being different ‘man’.
They are a different ‘person’ but the same ‘man’ which Locke’s view was about, so same thinking things over different times and places, the persistence conditions for ‘person’ has changed as consciously they don’t remember anything of the ‘man’ they have changed into, this explains, Locke’s argument
