I will be doing a study on Laurie Cabot. Laurie Cabot is a witch, author, artist, and businesswoman, who is one of the first people to help support witchcraft in the United States. She founded her own witchcraft tradition, the Cabot Tradition of the Science of Witchcraft, and the Witches’ League for Public Awareness. Laurie Cabot was born on March 6, 1933, first named as Mercedes Elizabeth Kearsey, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, before moving to Anaheim, California. Laurie Cabot was raised under the Catholic Church teachings, however, at a young age, Cabot was growing aware of her supernatural, or in other words, psychic, abilities. Later, Laurie Cabot decides not to go to college, and instead, started a career as a dancer in a nightclub, “Latin Quarter”, in Boston. She married twice in the 1950s and 1960s and had two daughters, both brought up as witches. After her second marriage ended, she dedicated her life to living as a witch, wearing only her traditional black robes, pentacle pendant, and using black eye makeup, which is an ancient witch tradition according to her. Laurie Cabot moved to Salem, Massachusetts, after a past life regression session by which she believes she had picked up traces of memory from a women named Susan Prescott who lived through the Salem Witch Trials. Cabot started teaching “Witchcraft as a Science” classes at the local high school and began to create the early stages of her Cabot Tradition of the Science of Witchcraft, which she describes it as a fusion of Celtic and pre-Gardnerian traditions.
