Machu Picchu Machu Picchu is a Citadel believed to be 1 of the 3 possible locations that could be the lost Incan capital. Machu Picchu is believed to be the Incan capital that was found by Archeologist, Hiram Bingham. Hiram Bingham Found the beautiful city of Machu Picchu in 1911, he found the citadel between the Andes Mountains and the Amazon Basin. Machu Picchu is one of the most beautiful and dramatic landscapes that you can find the planet, according to,” Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.”
Being the lost capital of the Inca Tribe is one of the biggest reasons Machu Picchu is known around the world. Hiram Bingham found three locations that it could be but Machu Picchu is the most known. Other reasons why Machu Picchu is as popular as it is today is because it was taken over by the Spanish Conqueror Francisco Pizarro in the 1530’s. According to The Stones of Machu Picchu, “the builder of the magnificent citadel was Manco II.” Manco built Machu Picchu right before Francisco Pizarro took it over.
