Teotihuacan is a city known as “the city of the gods” and was one of the largest pre-aztec cities around 400 BCE. Around the area there are major ceremonial precincts, large temples and pyramids. Around the region there is also residential areas, places to exchange things and tunnels that run half way through the city. Teotihuacan is located about 30 kilometer outside of mexico city. Around 100 BCE and 200 BCE, the city began to grow tremendously. The city started becoming well known and many people from diverse cultures began to migrate towards central mexico. The planning of the city began around the preclassic epoch. It was not too long after that people began making changes to the region and in some cases they extend to making things such as, ballrooms and royal palaces. Later around the sixth century of teotihuacan, there was a collapse of the city. Cities around central mexico got together and attempted to reconstruct the teotihuacan conce again, because it was known to be a mesoamerican tradition. But later the Tenochtitlan capital broke the tradition and then reached out to teotihuacan for help. Teotihuacan essentially has six different structures that identify what the actual layout really is. These six important parts of the layout are; 1. Plaza one, 2. Moon Pyramid, 3. Sun Pyramid, 4. Ciudadela, 5. Great Compound, and 6. Avenue of the dead. The sun and moon pyramids, along with ciudadela and the great compound are considered to be major civic buildings within the teotihuacan territory.
