Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most controversial men in history. He was a French military commander and a political leader who played a major part in the French Revolution. Napoleon was born and raised in Corsica so technically he was not truly of French origin but he is mentioned as a French man. Growing up, Napoleon always loved fighting and studying which then later in his life made him become a workaholic. At ten years old he proceeded to go study at Ecole Militaire of Paris with his older brother, Joseph. Since Napoleon was exposed to military ways at such a young age, he was able to quickly and effectively learn proper strategies regarding the military. As he grew up, Napoleon Bonaparte was mostly known for his military genius, coup d’etat, and his Napoleonic code. It was these three achievements that led to the survival of France during the French Revolution. The coup d’etat overthrew the French Directory leading to Napoleon’s rule over France. This was a significant move for Napoleon Bonaparte because he was able to gain control of the French government and as he said “protect and maintain the Republic”. Following the text, “the députés voted in favour of this proposal, and the Directory was replaced with an executive commission made up of three Consuls. The coup d’État had been a success; Bonaparte had begun his rise to power” (18 Brumaire: The Context And Course Of A Coup D’Etat). Not only did Napoleon take complete control of the French government but he also established three new consuls which benefited him. Once Napoleon was able to successfully overrule the Directory, three consuls called ‘Sieyès, Ducos, and Bonaparte’ replaced it. Using this to his advantage, Napoleon had begun his reign to make France
