Nelson Mandela, in relation to historical legendary icons is recognized as a cultural icon in taking a concrete stand against apartheid in South Africa and establishing great strides toward racial equality in that part and expanding its reach in Africa. The story behind Nelson Mandela is inspiring since it’s in the context of fighting Apartheid forces and surviving a long prison sentence all in the name of freedom and equal rights (Catel, 2010). His story can be seen by his constant fight for freedom of the African people from white apartheid forces; dominated by the national party government and after uprising numerous riots against apartheid forces under the ANC, sentencing him to jail for twenty-seven years.
With the strong will power and complete support of the African people, Mandela survived his prison sentence and became the first democratically elected president of South Africa after ANC won the majority on the 27th April of 1994. Mandela left a …show more content…
