“What are night terrors?” “What happens during night terrors?” These are two common questions that parents ask when their child starts to have night terrors. Night terrors are a serious problem within the younger children. Even though they don’t realize or remember that they were up screaming and crying during the night, they still need help to overcome this condition. Night terrors are most easily defined as a disturbance in sleep. Male children are more prone to be diagnosed with night terror. As many as six percent of children have had night terrors at some point in their life, most commonly in the toddler and preschool years, even continuing up to adolescence. During night terrors the child may experience:
• Rapid breathing
