Polar bears are one of the few animals on the planet that lives in the coldest environment. They natively lie within the Arctic Circle, the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and land masses. These bears roam the ice and swim in the coastal region’s waters. Their average life span is 25 to 30 years in the wild, while weighing 900 to 1,600 pounds. The way they produce as well as their survival time is often effected huge elements of climate change, which the case of polar bears is the disappearing of the ice. As polar bears are being affected, the holiday Coca-Cola commercial shows how people are trying to help saves these animals from all harm caused by climate change. The polar bear has been a beloved Coca-Cola icon since it appeared in the print ad in 1922. The Arctic is one of the largest, pristine places on Earth while also being the home to many adapted species such as the polar bear. They are mostly affected by the reduction of ice as a whole. The extent and thickness as well as the change in structure of the ice has had a negative influence on the conditions and reproductive success of polar bears and their prey. With less ice, polar bears are less likely to hunt seals and fish while also rebuilding their body fat and fitness. As the climate starts to change, the Arctic is also changing and becoming warmer. According to, Ian Stirling “As greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere rapidly increase, the Arctic is warming significantly. Satellite images show that the extent of Arctic summer sea ice has decreased by roughly 30 percent since 1979, reaching a historic low two years ago.” (Struzik 11). The way that scientists and other people help save these animals is portrayed in the Coca-Cola commercial that comes out during the holidays.
