Kent State Massacre Devastates Community "For the past ten years I have devoted myself to presenting people with the facts. What happened here was unforgivable, and the facts prove this."(“The). This was a quote was said by Alan Canfora who was a survivor. Alan was shot on May 4th, 1970 at the Kent State massacre("The). The Ohio National Guard came to Kent State University because the students there were holding an anti-war rally(PUBLISHED).
Columbine, by Dave Cullen is a non-fiction book documenting the horrific massacre which took place in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999. Not only does the writer give great detail about the shooting itself, he also gives and in depth look into the lives of the killers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, and their victims. The focus of this book is for the author to attempt to bring to light what really happened and hopefully gain better understanding as to why it all took place. Cullen, a journalist, begins an extensive nine year research in order to achieve awareness of the happenings before, during and after this tragic event. Entries from the perpetrators personal journals, stories from the ones who witnessed the shootings first hand, countless interviews from the victim’s families, as well as multiple other pieces of information give the reader an extremely up close and personal surrounding Columbine.
One of an impactful, historical tragedy in U.S history is the Boston Bombing. On April 15, 2013, at about 2:50 p.m., two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The bombs explode within 8-12 seconds of each other, and they were about 50-100 yards apart. 3 people got killed and more than 260 people got injured. The window of the store near the explosion were broken and a window on the third floor of the Boston Public Library was damaged.
The Murder of the Hollywood Starlet A young hollywood starlet was brutally murdered in 1947 with no killer identified to this day. This is real case that still puzzles investigators today. The woman in question was named Elizabeth Short, but is more widely known as the “Black Dahlia.” She was given this nickname by the press because of the sheer, black clothing she tended to wear (“The Black Dahlia Murder - Read All about it in FBI Records.”).
Along the Marias River on January 23, 1870, the Baker Massacre stirred Heavy Runner’s camp. The US Army purged into an innocent Blackfeet camp while most of their warriors were out hunting. The US army shot and murdered the Blackfeet relentlessly. But going back to what started it,it was 1869 when Owl Child murdered white trader, Malcolm Clarke. The government then gives orders to prepare for an attack.
Due to the unworthy acts of the so called “protectors” of the colonists, five men are dead and six others have been injured. The soldiers fired and killed, without orders, five men who were irritated by the controlling English Parliament. The soldiers have claimed this massacre as an act of self-defense, but the killing of unarmed men is anything but self-defense. The soldiers fired unsure whether they had been given an order or not.
The Myall creek massacre was the one of the first major attacks on the Aboriginals. Aboriginal men, women and children in an episode of extreme violence were slaughtered. The Myall Creek massacre was pure racism towards aboriginals caused by underlying attitudes within European people towards indigenous Australians. It was underpinned by Europeans settlers wanting to control the land which aboriginals had historically regarded as their own.
Black Dahlia Murder In 1947 the tragic loss of Elizabeth Short shocked many people all over the world. This wasn’t your typical murder, this murder had to have been planned out and thought about for a while before its happening. The “Black Dahlia Murder” is the biggest unsolved case in Los Angeles and is still an undergoing investigation. I have reason to believe that Dr. Gorge Hodel is the murderer behind the brutality of Elizabeth Short’s body.
Rosewood Massacre: A Race Riot In America In the first week of January in 1923 a racially motivated riot occurred int he small town of Rosewood, Florida. This riot escalated into a violent massacre that slaughtered many African Americans as well as Caucasians and lead to the demise of the entire town that had been established. This event became to be known as one several race riots that occurred in the United States of America during the early twentieth century. The events prior to the Rosewood Massacre, including the origins of the town, the massacre itself and the issues and events that were sub sequential to this catastrophic event all played a major role in the history of African Americans.
The Bombing 16th Street, Baptist Church The tragic event occurred on September 15, 1963. The act was carried out by members of the Ku Klux Klan, people who disliked blacks and did horrible things because of this, in Birmingham, Alabama. Alabama was a Southern state and allowed segregation. The explosion went off at approximately 10:20 A.M., when Sunday school was ending and the service was beginning.
The St.Valentine’s Day Massacre In the prohibition era a crime boss rose above all others in one unthinkable act that took many lives. That crime boss was Al Capone. As a kid Al Capone struggled in life; he was just a poor immigrant. The only way for him to get any kind of money was for him to turn to crime he is most famous for the St. Valentine’s Massacre.
The Columbine shooting is known as one of the most deadly school shootings in world history. I learned not only how deadly it was but the impacts it had on society and politics including new laws being made and an increased fear in school safety. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went on a shooting rampage at their high school in Littleton, Colorado. The Columbine shooting sparked a new wave of crimes in America.
The historical even that I chose, is the Rosewood Massacre. Here is a little background about the Rosewood Massacre. The massacre started as an allegation a white woman, named Fannie Coleman Taylor, was raped by a black man. This led Fannie Taylor’s husband to assemble a bunch of white men to catch who they thought to be the attacker, an alleged escaped convict, Jesse Hunter. Fannie Taylor’s husband, James Taylor, assembled people from a near Ku Klux Klan gathering to come to Rosewood where it was said that he’d been hiding by the help of Samuel Carter.
1963 Church Bombing “We've got to face the fact that some people say you fight fire best with fire, but we say you put fire out best with water. We say you don't fight racism with racism. We're gonna fight racism with solidarity” (Fred Hampton). The day of the Bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church was a day where fire was fought with fire. According to the article, “Birmingham Baptist Church Bombing.", a black man was murdered by an officer who believed that the black man was apart of an uprising for civil rights.
The Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre The Saint Valentines Day Massacre took place on February 14, 1929. Four unknown hitmen disguised as police officers walked into the notorious gangster, Bug Moran’s headquarters on North Clark Street in Chicago, Illinois. The four hitmen impersonating police officers acted like they were raiding Bug Moran’s warehouse where stored illegal liquor during the prohibition era. The hitmen lined Moran’s gang members against the wall in a firing squad execution manner. The hitman pulled out automatic tommy guns from under their coats and pumped lead into each of the seven North Side gang members.
