The Connection between Mental Health and Suicide

It would be difficult to go forward in this research paper with out a few concrete

definitions. What is mental health? What is a stressor? What is suicide? Without some way to

measure the findings ( a standard, if you will) in this paper, we would only be guessing and

sharing opinions. There will be opinions stated here that may not have been through the scientific

rigors of proving truth, but they will have something that is important to understanding this

complex realm.

Abuse] That monetary figure doesn’t even cover the massive amounts spent for legal drugs. That

estimate is also a few years old. Therefore, the numbers are supposed have climbed much higher

now, then that figure back in 2007. People use drugs for several reasons. Recovery Connection

lists the top ten reasons people do drugs. Here are a few: “Some drugs are legal” (they mention

alcohol and nicotine to be the most abused drugs), “They get a prescription for drugs”, “Going

Is this a speculative scenario? Yes, and a high rate of veteran suicides per minute back it

up. How about the teenager in school who can’t seem to escape those that torment her? Even

when she goes online to “get away” she is greeted by their mocking and taunting. So after time

she decides to permanently get away from her tormentors through suicide. How about the

successful man or woman that is discovered to have a raging drug problem that has been hidden?

How about the woman who has been through counseling, but can not seem to shake this dark

cloud over her? How about the man who has learned that he literally has just lost everything but

his life, including those that mean the most to him? These are all just scenarios that could be and

that have been. The relationship between mental health and suicide is this: A great mental health

seems to be clear of a desire for suicide, but a poor mental health can be a fertile field for one’s
