A howl from a ghastly hound would even frighten the bravest men, especially in the dark of the night. The Hound of the Baskervilles, a novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a murder mystery in which there is a family superstition that there is a demonic hound that stalks and murders them. They believe the hound roams around the moor, waiting for the Baskerville family to arrive and await their demise. Does this hound from hell really exist, or is it just a terrifying hoax? I think the hound does not exist because of eyewitnesses, lack of evidence, and inconsistencies. Multiple eyewitnesses have claimed to see the hound supporting his existence, including Sir Charles, who soon passed away from a suspected heart attack. His “sudden and tragic death” was presumed to have been caused by fright from seeing the hound. Though Dr. Mortimer has not seen the hound with his own eyes, he is aware it supposedly exists and knows the legend well. Mortimer says “the supernatural hound has haunted the family”. Footprints were found, but they were found “some twenty yards from the body, and no one gave them a thought.”(13) Even though the prints were far away from the body, they can allude to the hound being the murderer. But let's go back and counter that statement. Remember, Sir Henry died from a heart attack, not from wounds in his flesh. The hound would have physically hurt him, and there was no sign of anything like that. So was he scared to death, or was it something
