The United States of America celebrates Columbus Day, to commemorate the day Christopher Columbus landed in the New World, on the second Monday of October. The United States should not be celebrating Columbus Day because Christopher was not a very nice person. He made strict laws about obtaining gold and bringing its overseas, enslaved and murdered millions of native Americans, and he did not even step foot in America, the main country that celebrates this day in history. In a letter from Christopher Columbus to Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, Columbus recommends rules and regulations for a new colony, for the benefit of Spain.
The Aryan Brotherhood is a gang that was founded in San Quentin State Prison in 1967. The man who founded the gang was Barry Mills and Tyler Bingham. Barry Mills and Tyler Bingham created the gang to protect white inmates from the predatory black and Mexican inmates. They were beat on randomly by Black Guerilla Family and the Mexican Mafia for either exploitation or no reason at all. Many whites did not like the random beatings, which is how the gang began.
The “Saturday Night Massacre” of October 20, 1973 in the Justice Department, refers to Nixon’s attempts that day to order the firing of special prosecutor Archibald Cox, who had been appointed to investigate the president’s role in the Watergate scandal. Along with this attempt includes the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus. The Saturday Night Massacre was a controversial episode of the Watergate scandal. This event followed the Watergate Scandal of the June 1972 break in at the Watergate complex, leading to the arresting of five Nixon operatives in the office of the Democratic National Committee. The origin name of this event is not recognized officially, but research says,”
I believe that Columbus Day shouldn’t be a holiday. Columbus was horrible to the Native Americans, He took them as slaves, wiped out them with diseases, and just killed them outright with superior weapons like guns. He tried to convert Native Americans into Christians while trying to wipe out the Native American Culture. In Columbus’ journal Columbus wrote “All the inhabitants could be taken away to spain to become slaves.”
I feel that Columbus Day shouldn’t be a national holiday. It should not be a holiday because Columbus was an awful person. He murdered hundreds of natives causing genocide, killing off half of the population either by overworking them or making them starve. He also brought harmful germs and diseases to the indigenous people such as smallpox, influenza, typhus, and typhoid. Lastly, he enslaved the Natives so that he could have gold.
They believe that alcohol is considered a sin and you will go to hell if you consume it outside of the communion ceremony. Their strong beliefs were not in accordance with the majority of the population which resulted in the abolition of prohibition only a few years later, depending on which province you lived in. False prophecies also allowed people not to believe in the so called purity that swept over our
To counteract major alcohol consumption many universities are ironically opting to sell alcoholic beverages inside their stadiums. There logic is that by selling alcohol they can monitor and limit the number of drinks
Ask the average American to name a gang they are familiar with and chances are the response will be either the Crips or the Bloods. Over four decades ago, African American youth founded these gangs after many years of oppression, marginalization, and institutional racism. The Crips and the Bloods, who originated from neighborhoods of Southern California, have now spread across the nation with a presence in thirty-two states. They changed the American landscape forever.
For most, the second Monday in October is Columbus Day, but for an increasing amount of people, Columbus Day has been replaced by Indigenous People’s Day. What is Indigenous People’s Day? Indigenous People’s Day is a celebration of Native American peoples and culture, which is often overlooked. Proponents of the redesigned holiday argue that Native Americans were already living in America when Christopher Columbus arrived, thus questioning the legitimacy of Columbus’ discovery. This alternate holiday is said to have begun in Berkeley, California back in 1992.
A College Nightmare On the day of May 4, 1970, college students and people across America watched in astonishment as the world they were living in was crumbling to the core. The reasoning behind American’s crumbling was because of the turning against each other as citizens and the government. America was turning against each other and their country because of the involvement in the Vietnam War. On this specific day in history, college students had lost their lives because they were fighting for something they strongly believed in.
It would be an honor to be among the exemplary students who represent the National Honor Society. The first time I heard about NHS was in the second semester of my freshman year. Ever since then I pushed myself to work hard. Thinking that by pushing myself harder to get that A in that one academically challenging class, putting on a smile every day, and getting better at time management while displaying character, scholarship, leadership, and service will help me to become an NHS student who represents the ideology of the club. In many environments, in and out of school, I believe I display those qualities.

Some might say that the use of alcohol is common place and nothing more than a stepping stone in the ritual of being a college student. The problem is the consequences of binge drinking and excessive drinking should not be accepted as “ritual” or common place. Some consequences are extremely problematic and not only impact the individual but have lasting consequences for the college environment in a global sense.
