William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and actor. He's known as the greatest writer in the English language. He was born around April 23, 1564. He's known worldwide for his works like Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and his sonnets. He wrote plays that embody most of the human emotions and conflicts. He died about 400 years ago but his works are still in use in schools and people worldwide. “For sweetest things turn sourest by their deeds; Lillies that fester smell far worse than weeds.” A quote taken from one of the many sonnets that Shakespeare wrote. A sonnet is a poem of expressive thought or idea composed of 14 lines, each of ten syllables long. "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" This is a line from one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. You can see there are only ten syllables, as the definition of sonnet implies. It may have two different kinds of rhyme scheme: English or Italian. The English rhyme scheme structure is ab, ab, cdcd, ef, ef, gg. Yet the Italian rhyme scheme structure is abba, abba, cdecde. Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets cover a diverse amount of themes. Some of them include love, beauty, the passage of time, and mortality. His first 126 sonnets are for a young man who is unknown.
